Default huge charge from JD Williams catalogue

Hi all, I'm new to this site, not sure if this is the right forum. I asked JD Williams catalogue if I could pay token payments of £5 per month as I am now on benefits my balance owing is £604 and repayments were £52 per month. They have agreed to accept the £5 per month no problem but today I recieved a statement from them and they have charged me a whopping £60 arrangement fee for the privalige of making the arrangements of token payments even though they know I'm on benefits. They did tell me over the phone that there would be a 'small charge' for this service but £60 is ridiculous! I've read through all the FAQ's on this site but I must admit I find it all a bit overwhelming and I don't know where to start. Is there anything I can do about this £60 fee? I am continuing to pay the £5 a month but it's all I can afford as I have three credit cards and several other catalogues to pay off as well.

    Hi Cherry11,

JD Williams is next on my hit list. Will be starting on them in the New Year.

I would send off the SARicon request and enclose the £10.00, this way you'll get your statements and of course you will find those administrations charges, you know the ones, when they tell you have been naughty and your payment never made it on time.

Complete a spread sheet with all the charges including the arrangement fee,of course make sure you used contractual interesticon, this will boost the amount they owe you, senf off the prelim letter and sit back. Of course keep paying your £5.00 to them, to show you kee[ong your end of the bargain.
if you meed help just yell, there are enough of us around and most probably someone who has already had dealings with J D Williams might be able to assist you, but first off, the SARicon.

    I hope this helps.

Oh the other thing send off for a copy of your credit agreement £1.00 post order to included in that letter.

Read up on the threads of non existent credit agreements. This might help you feel less pressure regarding the catalogue companies.

    Thankyou Battleaxe,

Sorry to be thick but where can I find information about the SARicon or perhaps a template letter? Is this somewhere in the FAQ's?

    Hi cherry

If you go to the consumer action group main page and follow the page down until you see Bank Template Library. All the letters are there.

I have had dealings with JD Williams and sent off all the letters and requested a copy of my agreement. They wrote back saying they cannot provide the agreement and realise they cannot force me to pay. Others have had their debts written off, so I would suggest you keep at them.

I am not finished with them yet, will try to get the debt written off.

    Cherry11,

I see Carolbl has answered your question. I would advise that you continue to pay the £5.00 you have agreed with them, but claim back all the charges (adminicon letters those £12.50 and £17.50 costs, and the arrangement fee in your case). This way they will see you are being proactive and trying to meet you committment at the same time. I know others have had their debt written off because a credit agreement cannot be produced, but I think there is a moral obligation; after all you have recieved the goods. This is my opinion only. Perhaps when you have tallied the charges and added the interesticon to the claim this could reduce the amount owed considerably.

This site is not for dodging your responsiblities, just getting back what is rightfully yours and getting the financial institutions to play the game fairly.
