Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi Im a newbie so please bear with me. I have an account and am in abit of diffcultly at the min. I asked to extend my overdraft slighly but was told "it would be unethical of me to do that" yet they are quite happy to "ethically" apply bank charges to my account for going slightly overdrawn and I mean slightly! They also threatened to refer me to credit control and close my account...can they do this?? I know they need to give me 30 days notice under the Banking Code but really this is a little extreme. Why do they apply charges to an account that is already struggling? They apply charges on top of charges and this escalates the problem.
hang on in there boxer I'll ask for some advice for you

Closing an account is always a possibility with any bank, although some are more likely than others.
To close an account for retaliatory reasons is in contravention of the Banking Code. Although they would probably say that they closed the account because you were overdrawn.
I also suggest that you spend a couple of days reading the FAQs and the step by step guide. That should answer most of your questions.
Open your own thread in the appropriate bank forum and post any questions and progress reports there. You will be able to draw on the experience of other users who are also dealing with your bank.
If you have any problems then post.
Good luck with your claim.
