    Default RBS Credit Card charges

I find it quite disgusting that even after the recent ruling that the credit card companies have to lower their charges to £12, RBSicon is still unwilling to do so as I have recently discovered on my April Statement.

I have also sent both letters into RBS Credit Card division requesting that they refund the charges applied to my account and they have declined, stating the usual rubbish about their fees being part of the terms and conditionsicon blah blah blah.

Once my other two claims with RBS have been settled, I will definitely be putting in a claim for my credit card charges.

You should first find out the facts before launching an attack. I have never ever paid my credit card instalment late.

The overlimit charges where charged once I had paid my monthly instalment (which is always more than my minimum payment), as a result of the interesticon which they charge on the 10th of the month (after which my instalment is due). So I've gone over by a pound or two due to my interest being charged and am then hit with a further £20 in charges.

Your reply would probably be 'well then calculate the interest'....which I do, but I'm obviously out by a few pounds here and there. Secondly I wasn't complaining about charging me for being over, but the charges should have been adjusted to £12 and should not still be at £20.

So please take your self-righteous, sanctimonious self to some other thread.

I think the banks have till the end of May regarding lowering the charges. Until then they will refuse to lower them.

Mrsmorten is right the banks have until 31st May to respond. And they didn't say that £12 was a fair charge, just it was the maximum that should be charged.

rema1979 again you have my backing - all the best!

edited my posts as i dont think you got my point.

the charges are excessive i dont disagree with this.

what i'm trying to say is people who get these fees should instead of moaning about them review there own finances and see why they are overspending each month.
do they really need that new pair of shoes etc.

not the same subject but i work in a bar and i pay tax.
now some people who come into the bar are claiming the dole (dont know its pc title and too lazy to google)
they smoke all the time there in the pub and sink 8 pints ish of stella.
my taxes are paying for these people to pay my wages? (side point but interesting)

but majority of these people tell me they have money problems and i have actually challanged them at times why are they spending there money on fags and booze and not solving there problems.

for all your information i am a student but i work about 20 hours a week in a bar simply to gain cash to afford to go out (my loan covers my rent and fees)
my credit card is mainly used if i'm waiting for my wages or i have something that urgently i need cash for or to buy. my limit is 4k (i know i done well as a student) of which i never use more than 500 as this is all i can afford to pay off in one go if i ever needed to.

perhaps aswell as wishing people good luck on getting there fees back people should be encouraging them to think and manage there accounts better so they recieve no more fees

Agreed 100%. Like it or not in todays modern world a lot of people are living outwith their means as it is all too easy to live in a buy now pay later world.
Current bank charges are unlawful so I'm 100% in support of customers getting them back. The issue of financial management is another issue but I'd say probably about 10-20% of the population need to stop and have a long hard look at the fact (even in an ideal bank-charge-free-world) that they're spending more than they're earning without making long term plans to pay off what they've borrowed.

also i know its pretty certain that people will get charges back but its not 100%.
after reading alot of posts on this forum i am worried that people are relying on these charges to pay of debts something thats a bad idea in my opinion

    Nothings ever 100%.
Its up to the individual, if they think the £10 Subject access requesticon fee and relevant court fees are worth risking on getting hundreds or in some cases thousands back then a lot of people will take it. There's not a single bank that's successfully defended its claim so far so I suppose that spurs people on to action. So far the only risk involved to the customer is if that they might lack the motivation / balls to follow through all the way, but I think this site is a great help in that department.
