Hi guys, wondering if anyone can help me. I may be jumping the gun here as Virgin haven't contacted me yet re: my stolen car.

It was stolen from outside my house last night sometime. (Subaru Legacy)

I have never claimed on my insurnace and the last time (and only time) I had a car stolen was for a car not worth claiming for!!! There are a few q's I have and just wondered if anyone had any experience with this.

Firstly, I have fully comp insurnance and it mentions that they supply a courtesy car while mines in for repair, but I haven't had an accident, its been nicked! What happend then ? Am I still entitled to a courtesy car?

How will this claim affect my no claims?? Do they only take accidents into consideration or do TWOC's count againt it too?

I know I should be asking them all this but I cant be bothered to wait 3 days for a phone call!! If I cant have a courtesy car I need to look into buying a banger until my claim is sorted out!

Any help gratefully recieved,

Many thanks

Heidi

Right.

No you will not be entitled to a courtesy carr whilst the vehicle is stolen unrecovered. If the vehicle is found, and in for repairs then you will get one.

Your no claims discount will be affected, unless the Police catch the thief, prosecute and the courts order him to pay the insurance company back -VERY RARE.

Also you should need to know your excess would be deducted from the settlement amount, and should you continue with the claim your premiums will still be payable until renewal - you need to know that if you decide not to get a replacement car and are paying monthly.

What we advise people in a similar situation to yourself is to go on virgins website & get yourself 2 quotes - 1 on the basis that you will have and extra years NCD (which you will get if the claim is withdrawn) and one on the basis your NCD has stepped back 2 yrs and a claim has been made. Multiply that by 3 (as the claim will stay on your policy for 3 years), add the excess to that, and that is what the claim will cost you.

If it is more than a cost of the car, and you can afford to buy a replacement car, then it would be best withdrawing the claim.

1 green dot means no one has complained - look at your USER CP and it will have your "reputation points".

Im in Court on Mon at Sheff v a foundry close to you (I assume you are Sbridge South Yorks) not going to press the scales so you stay red as per your instructions. Do you work for 1 of the big assessors? Do the FSO actually have any weight with these people? Ive reported my insurers to them as they have taken months and still have to decide whether to pay my husbands Unemployment cover claim? He has been working for 6 weeks now put it that way

  • 2 weeks later...

Well it still hasn't been found yet:-(

Isurance co. have sent a letter saying that they will settle the claim, but they want to send someone out to look at the car to help value it? There is no car to look at (well not yet anyway!!), please tell me this is a standard letter!

As usual the last moron to look at your claim looked at the last entry which probably indicated that they are going to settle so they sent you a letter to arrange an inspection without realising it's nicked.

You would think the case reference alone would indicate the type of claim.

Also in the case of theft it's usual for the insurance company to wait 3 months before settling. This is to allow the police time to recover it.

Let the assessor turn up then tell him cos telling the insurer doesn't appear to be working

Got a phone call from the police yesterday, they have someone in custody who has addmitted to stealing my car!! But still cant find my car. Well I suppose its a start. I phoned Virgin this morning to advise, and was told I may even have my cq b4 xmas!!

This all seems too easy! They have given me a valuation, which I suppose is acceptable, and thats it really. Just have to wait and see now.

Is the valuation really acceptable? They will usually offer you less than they are willing to pay out first - at least that's what happened when I had my car nicked. First offer was £3k, I said it was worth £4... without delay they increased the offer to £3.5k. Got to be worth a try to push for a bit more.

I dont think its too bad TBH, they have offered me £2900. I paid £3000.00 for it 5 weeks before it was nicked! So I've lost £100 in 5 weeks, I dont think that is too unreasonable!

I hear what you are saying but I dont think its going to be worth pushing.
