    Red face Nat v A+L

Hi, am very new to this and dont even know if this thread is going to go where its supposed to!?Ive sent off my letter and £10 cheque to Alliance and Leicester and am now waiting for a response, but am v. confused about calculating the interesticon.
Do I have to find out what the banks annual interest rate was when they charged me, and is the formula the charge times the annual interest rate divided by 100 divided by 365 times the number of days passed since the charge was made?
Sorry, I am rubbish at maths, and also dont really understand a lot of the legal jargon, so God only knows what'll happen if I go to court!!

Hi nat dont worry about interesticon etc at the moment, there is an excellent selection of spreadsheets in the templates libraryicon. But whilst you are waiting for the post to arrive, please spend your time reading the faq's and the step by step instructions. Good luck with your quest and please PM me if you need further help, I will try to help you or point you in the right direction.

Have now at last received my statements, after many calls and them getting lost in the post (yeah right!!) and my charges are, if my calculations are correct £1224, which is great, but just wanted to check what I can and cant reclaim. Some of the things I'm pretty sure I can claim are, paid item charges, failed direct debiticon charges and failed standing order charges, but what about monthly overdrafticon charges, where they charge you a set amount each month for having an overdraft facility? And what about the interest on an overdraft. If anyone knows could you let me know, as I want to get it exactly right. Also do I need to include a list of the charges or do I just ask them for the total amount? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Nat.

You cannot claim the monthly overdrafticon charge an it is a charge for a service provided.

You can claim back the portion of the debit interest that that applies to the penalty charges.
It can be a pig to calculate. If you want to claim it, the best way to do it is to use one of Vampiress's spreadsheets which attempt to work out an approximation of the interest for you.

    Good luck with your claim.

Ok, thats great thanks, I've had a look at the spreadsheets, and as I'm computer illiterate and rubbish at maths, i think i won't bother trying to work out the interesticon, £1224 is still a lot of money to me anyway.
Gonna get all my stuff together tonight and post it all off and take it one step at a time coz this is where it all starts getting a bit scarey!!

Well I have today received my standard letter from A&L saying these charges apply only to credit cards, I can't believe their bare faced cheek, they are such liars!! Anyway, do I now have to wait until the 14 working days are up before I send the letter before actionicon, I have read the step by step, but as I've said before am a bit clueless, so just wanted to check, then after that I wait another 14 days before I go to the next step and send the MCOL, is this right? Does anyone know how much it is to apply for the MCOL thing? or does it vary from person to person? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Only 2 more days now before I send my lbaicon. I have another query though. I bought a credit report from Experian as I was refused credit recently, and couldnt think why. When I received it, it says that I've missed a few payments with my Argos Additions catalogue. I've read a few catalogue related posts, but it looks like unless the charges are more than £10, its unlikely I'd get anything back. All I wondered was does anyone know if it would be worth writing to them anyway and asking them to remove any default notices on my credit record in the usual way? Or has anyone had any succes with getting any charges paid back from Argos additions, as I couldnt find any in the search?

Thanks so much for all your help, I have made a donationicon and filled in the survey and have told everyone I know about this site, I couldnt have done it without your help.
PS can someone move this thread to the winners section.thank you

fantastic -well done - encouraging for a newbie like me.

I thnk you have to Private message a moderator to get the thread moved and also let the litigation concluded section know.

Fantastic news - you must feel very proud to get such a quick result - especially as it now looks like A&L can not close account in retaliation.
