Posted DPA recorded on 22/11 to the Woolwich
Received a reply today 27/11/06 - From Barclays
REPLY AS FOLLOWS
As requested a schedule of charges is in course of preparation and wil be sent to you shortly by the Woolwich: there will be no charge for this service . As the bank is providing this information on a complimentary basis, your cheque is returned herewith.
As regards your mention of "manual intervention", the DPA does not oblige the bank to comment about internal policies and procedures. Furthermore, in the context of managing day to day transactions from out of order accounts, the bank does not hold the informaton requested in a form that would be covered by the DPA. Letter continues on........
Is this a standard reply as in the first paragraph it states a schedule of charges will be sent shortly and in the second it states the bank does not hold the information you have requested. Account was closed about six months ago with £500? owing.
Hi Tan
Yes your right in suspecting that the letter they have sent is standard even the part about about Manual Intevention.
Now while your waiting for the statements to arrive have a browse through this forum and see what you are likely to encounter, they in all probability pay up but Barclays/woolwich do tend to draw it out till the end, if you get any probs just post in your thread and someone will get back to you. And keep us updated on how things are going.

FIRST ACCOUNT - Statements received just before xmas. £444.00 to claim - not sure what to do with this one as we never paid charges and account was closed, I remember phoning them (after account was closed) with an offer of monthly payments, they advised monthly payments was not an option but I could pay in full. I have a feeling they may have refunded charges leaving the balance at zero as statement shows balance as zero. I will give them a ring tomorrow and go from there. I will let you know......
SECOND ACCOUNT -We have another Woolwich account and SAR was posted on 27.11.06, 40 days will be up soon and statements have not arrived. Contacted Woolwich today to be told they are receiving a lot of requests for statements and there may be a slight delay. They have until the 40 days or up......
Hi Tan
Can you expand a bit more on the first account
1 why was it closed. by you or them
2 what is the £440 and why are you not sure what to do, are they Charges if so for what?
3 Were you defaulted.
Second account, always write to them, by all means phone but back it up with a letter, then they cant say you did'nt ask.
Tell them you expect your request to be for-filled by the 40 day deadline(state date), no excuses 40 days or you will send a complaint to Information Commissioner for non-compliance of request and they dont like that

Thanks for info paddym & e28bigalbexley. I am awaiting credit file to see if we were defaulted. Account was closed by the Woolwich and the £440 is all charges (not sure if charges were reversed)
2nd account - Still no statements. I am going to send another letter to the Woolwich and one to the Information Commissioner. Woolwich seem to think they have eight weeks from the date letter is entered on the system? It has been 41 days since they received SAR....

Hi,
I started action on getting my mony back from the Woolwich after hearing of this action from watching the documentary on BBC 2 a few months ago. I straightaway went on the internet and came across your site. Well after many months of dithering i plucked up the courage to start action. I phoned my bank and asked them to send me a list of all the default charges that have ben applied to my account over the last years. They were extremely nice on the phone and assured me i will receive these within 3 working days which, to my suprise, i did. Well on examining the 12 pages, i arrived at the total at the bottom of the last page (they even went this far) and to my surprise, i discovered that my bank had taken 4997.50 from me over the last six years. This made me very angry. I immediately went on the net and to your site again and made use of the template. I sent the letter off to the bank on the 9th fo December 2006 demanding my money back. I then got a reply back 2 weeks later saying that my complaint had been transfered to Barclays and the will be in touch within 28 days. Sure enough. on the 28th day which is today i came home to find what i can only describe as an insulting letter from Barclays offering me 1000 as a gesture of goodwill. Well, you can imagin how angry and upset i was. I am now preparing for the next stage as i am now ready to take this fight all the way to the courts. Please advice me of what my next move should be. I want to know if i should send another letter or go straight to court.</p>
I think you have been more than generous (which is another way of saying slack) in allowing them to dictate the timetable. YOU dictate the timetable, YOU stick to it.
Yes, the offer is insulting. One's inclination is to tear it to shreds with your teeth, whizz on it and jump on its grave. But hold! Keep it for your court bundle.
Send an lba, giving them 14 days. At the end of the 14 days, and without giving them any more time or allowing any more consideration, issue proceedings. File your claim. Kick some butt.
It's an astonishing level of charges - rivals mine. Go after them and get it back.
One more suggestion - start your own thread, so you can keep all your stuff in one place.
Best wishes with your claim

Hi Tan
Iwas really interested in all your post re the woolwich, I am just about to start proceeding with them myself. What I would like to clarify with you if I may is "Did they close your account because of your claim, because I am going to be in trouble if thats true. I only have a basic Open Plan account with an Electron card, internet capability and the ability to have DD's and SO;s taken out to pay bills. But that's it, not overdraught facility at all, which would somtimes have been useful and probably a lot cheaper than having £35.00 a time charged for each DD that is unpaid. I even phoned last year to ask if they would up my card to a basic switch card, I stressed with no ability to spend whats not there etc, purely to be able to have Tesco deliver shopping when my husband is very ill and I cant leave house. They did a credit score for that and came back with "Computer says NO"........no discussion no alternative, nothing, and I was so angry and frustrated I tried to open another basic current account with Smile I think it was, but was declined, even for that. We are have a few CCJ's still I think from when we lost our business and a few years ago had a problem with benefits being credited a day late due to DSS mistake, and Woolwich bounced all the payments that normally go out same day benefit is in, including my mortgage, and put something like £300.00 charges on my account which I dont think Ive still gotten over, yet. They refused to negotiate saying that I should make sure myy payments were covered regardless of benefit, in case of situations happening

first start your own thread that way we can follow your case! you need to send rejection of offer letter from the templates section ! then read as many woolwich cases as you can then you will understand how they operate the letter you received is just a standard offer reject it you will get all your money back plus 8% interest once you have issued court proceedings but you cant claim interest before then read the frequently asked questions section of this site there you will find a complete guide as to the course of action to follow regarding claiming your money back from the bank ok any probs just ask someone will be along to help or offer advice good luck !
if my advice has been of any help to you then please click the scales ! Thank you
Hi, Canttakeanymore.
In answer to your questions, both my woolwich accounts were closed by them (this happened before I started claim for charges) this was fine by us though as we had opened new accounts. Natwest step account seems pretty easy to open and you get a solo card (tescos accept solo) Hope this helps, good luck with your claim.
