Question Why is it so hard

to get a debt recovery company to provide written acknowledgement that you have paid your debt with them for a particular account in full?

I have two such accounts that I have cleared in the last few months and despite writing and asking for confirmation I have had nothing from either company.

Is there anything I can write to them in terms of time limits and legalities for responses?

Send them a S.A.R. that should get you all the information you need to prove it's paid.

If they fail to comply go the usual route and take them to court to enforce your request, and get your "legitimate" expences back. Might be an idea to request that the judge also orders them to write a letter of confirmation regarding your account clearance.
