in stores:

 

If an item is priced incorrectly on the shelf, or scans at the wrong price at the till, retailers are under no obligation to honour it, under the Sale of Goods Act/The Consumer Rights Act 2015

 

They can offer the item at the correct price or refuse your money and withdraw the product from sale.

 

If a pricing mistake is not noticed and the customer pays for an item at the reduced cost, the purchase is considered a legally binding contract between the retailer and the customer. The shop has no legal right to claw back any money if it later realises there has been an error.

This is contract law, and the leading authority is Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots Cash Chemists (Southern) Ltd., [1953] 1 QB 401

The key is "at what point was the contract crystallised"?

In shops it is when the customer offers payment and the retailer accepts it.

 

For online sales, such as the case here, it will usually be covered by the firm's T's & C's (although they can't over-ride statutory rights).

 

So check what the retailer's T's & C's say. For example, Amazon say

Your order is an offer to Amazon to buy the product(s) in your order. When you place an order to purchase a product from Amazon, we will send you a message confirming receipt of your order and containing the details of your order (the "Order Confirmation"). If you are using certain Amazon Services (e.g. Amazon mobile applications) the Order Confirmation may be posted on a Message Centre on the website. The Order Confirmation is acknowledgement that we have received your order, and does not confirm acceptance of your offer to buy the product(s) or the services ordered. We only accept your offer, and conclude the contract of sale for a product ordered by you, when we dispatch the product to you and send e-mail or post a message on the Message Centre of the website confirming to you that we've dispatched the product to you (the "Dispatch Confirmation")

In that case if they used the same / similar T's & C's and cancelled before dispatch / dispatch confirmation : no legal redress.
