I guess there is always the telephone book? I have Yellow Pages and a local directory delivered every year.

When BT's 192 service was scrapped it cost 40p to get a phone number from directory enquiries - now it costs up to £10.50!!

Top watchdog Ofcom has launched an investigation into rip-off directory enquiry numbers following revelations calls can cost up to £10.50.

Controversial 118 numbers are at the centre of the probe which the regulator said have rocketed in cost since savvy phone users have turned to free online services.

I'd love to see how they justify a 10.50 cost purely for providing a phone number gained by someone just searching it on a computer in their offices

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

Ofcom Telephone review to ensure value for callers

Call Cost Review will examine 118 and 070 numbers

Ofcom is to review the cost of calling some telephone services, to ensure people are protected from high prices and unfair practices.

People have been spending less on mobile and landline calls in recent years, and consumers generally have a wide choice of call packages and phone services.[1]

However, Ofcom is concerned about the rising costs of calling certain telephone service numbers. These include directory enquiries numbers, which begin with 118; and ‘personal’ or ‘follow-me’ numbers, which begin with 070 and allow users to be contacted on any phone at any location.
