Police warning over fake £5 notes just six months after launch of new fivers

Police have warned shoppers to lookout for counterfeit versions of the polymer £5 note just six months after the new fivers entered circulation.

Officers warned the public to be on the lookout for fake banknotes after they were spotted in Wadebridge, Cornwall.

Dorset Police had issued a similar warning in February saying counterfeit notes were found in circulation near Poole.

The new warning comes just six months after the new £5 note was launched by the Bank of England.

It is stronger than its predecessor and boasts new security features which the Bank of England said makes it harder to counterfeit.

Got that wrong then, didn't they ?

Supposed to be indestructible as well !!

Not so 'indestructible' after all! Security holograms on new £5 notes are already rubbing away - prompting police to wrongly issue a warning they are FAKE

Officers issued alert after spotting notes without some of the security features

They turned out to be real notes which had been damaged due to 'extreme use'

Bank of England previously said new fivers were 'more much durable' than old

But it admitted today that the notes could have been ruined in a hot wash

Genuine £5 notes have a gold Big Ben on the front and feature clear holograms

Are the 'fakes' actually 'fakes', as both the 'fakes' and the 'hologram has rubbed off' ones are from Wadebridge ...........

Is it that the 'fake' is a real note that the hologram has worn away?, and isn't a fake at all??.

(The Bank of England will replace a damaged note, but not a fake!)

The fakes were in circulation two weeks after the new ones were out, emails were sent out by local plod to shops and stores when they were aware of it.

Gives the government more credence to forcing the population to go cashless...

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!
