I had AXA health insurance up until April 2016, and in January of 2016 I received some specialist treatment all of which was paid by insurance.

I have now had a letter from AXA to say I owe this specialist £200 as they have just had an invoice, 21/3/2017, and my outpatients limit had been reached.

I said I thought 14 months late was a bit much, that I had now cancelled the policy, that I might have moved and I wasn't impressed. Their stance is that it is between me and the specialist....the Dr's accounting system must be wild!!

Any advice really appreciated....

Nothing stopping you making a complaint in writing to Axa on the basis that they should have told you the policy limit in advance of this last treatment appointment. You would then have enquired how much was due and when payment was due.

The time issue is not important, it is the quality of communications from Axa. If you go down that route, you might have more success.

We could do with some help from you.

The bill is actually for the initial consultation. I had so many tests, in/out patient procedures I wasn't keeping track. I did, however, check with AXA, before cancelling the policy, that everything was paid up.

Their take now is that as it hadn't been billed they are just passing it on.......I did know that my limit had been reached, bar £5.

Other than write a letter of objection, to the specialist's secretary, I guess I just have to pay ....within 30days??

You should have been given all information upfront and if not, then you have a valid complaint against whoever is billing you 14 minths later.

Thank you.

It is AXA who are the messengers, and telling me to pay the specialist direct.

Who should I make my complaint to?

AXA, although they said everything was paid, which it was, are now saying, in effect, they didn't know what they didn't know....so I still owe it and I should settle directly with the Doctor.

I think a Doctor sending out a bill 14 months after an appointment is appalling.
