Swingeing cutbacks have forced a primary school to ask parents to send their children in with toilet roll.

St John's Primary School in Crowborough, East Sussex sent parents a letter inviting them to help out with 'non essential' items including glue sticks, pencils, Sellotape and envelopes.

It suggested that on the special non-uniform day children could bring in toilet roll - the cost of which has to be 'rigorously monitored'.

I couldn't believe I was reading this ? Surely there is a mismanaged budget if things have got to this point. The Head Mistress has also asked for stationery supplies to be sent in.

Toward the end of the article it mentions that the school had recently been raising funds for 3rd world schools. Whilst this is admirable, should charity not begin at home ?

As for this statement

Staff provide their own tea and coffee to help manage the budget, despite promises of a £42 billion budget by 2019-2020

Staff should provide their own tea and coffee, shouldn't they ?

Surely there is a mismanaged budget if things have got to this point.

I have a relative who sells things (let's call them craft supplies) through ebay and amazon as well as direct from his own website. Delivery charges came up in conversation only a couple of days ago and the people who will pay £6.95 for next day delivery for something costing a couple of quid when it would be free for waiting a couple of days. He gets loads and nearly all of them orders for primary schools - sometimes more than one week from the same school.
