Well old Tawnyowl is thinking of going Vegan.Or try to slowly.Anyone in the forums Vegan.

I do not know that much about it, but had some Vegan soup the other day at a protest.

Very nice and made me think.

57 Health Benefits of Going Vegan

Also made me think when I read this as old Tawny's Arteries are not what they used to be.

Cardiovascular disease. Eating nuts and whole grains, while eliminating dairy products and meat, will improve your cardiovascular health. A British study indicates that a vegan diet reduces the risk for heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Vegan diets go far in preventing heart attack and stroke.

Learning already. Thanks for the idea, I just popped in to have a look.

Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry.

Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.

I feel this if you decided to become a Vegan would be best to take one step at a time.

Suppose you could start moving to Vegetarian then if you felt strongly enough to move to being a Vegan.I had not till now realised what a Vegan was fully.

It would need some getting used to, some time, but many must have passed this way before.I will check how many Vegans roughly there are and if they are increasing in numbers.

Link. As you say honeybee13, a suitable name for a post on this thread. It has recipes and much more.

How many vegans are there in Great Britain?

In 2016 The Vegan Society in partnership with Vegan Life Magazine commissioned research that found that there were over half a million vegans in Great Britain, three and a half times as many as estimated in 2006.

A vegan diet is recognised as a valid diet

Veganism is widely recognised as a valid, healthy diet that everyone can thrive on. The British Dietetic Association recently stated that, awell-planned plant-based, vegan-friendly diets can be devised to support healthy living at every age and life-stage.’

(Memorandum of Understanding between The Vegan Society and the British Dietetic Association,

The British Dietetic Association, 12th March 2014).

So mixing vegetarians with vegans. In the UK.

A more recent poll estimated that 5.7% of the population were vegetarian. In numbers this means there are over 3 million vegetarians in the UK today and vegetarians (people who don't eat meat), and vegans (people who don't eat or use any animal products) are becoming increasingly common in UK culture.

In America

The just-released “Vegetarianism in America” study, published by Vegetarian Times (vegetariantimes.com),

shows that 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian-based diet.

Approximately 0.5 percent, or 1 million, of those are vegans, who consume no animal products at all.

And it is no surprise as you read tobyjugg2s thread this morning.

Without thinking of the health benefits.

Still weighing things up as this vegetarian idea is so new to me.I will try things soon though.

I quite like a meaty taste so just looked around for substitutes and found this.

10 Vegetables That Can Substitute for Meat

The good news is that you are trying to eat veg! The bad news is that you’re thinking how much you will miss all your old favorite foods.
Very true.

Well, guess what? The better news is that going veg doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the dishes you love most. Pretty much anything you used to eat can be made with plant-based ingredients – even really meaty dishes like burgers, meatballs, and Buffalo wings.

They might taste 'meaty' to vegetarians, but they dont to this meat eater. Now I do like the spicy bean burgers - but certainly not on a bap, and they are NOTHING like spicy Mexican beefburgers

Who remembers potatoes being good for you, then bad for you, then good for you again?

Who now heard that toast is bad for you if its actually toast rather than warmed bread?

Moderation is the key, not abstinence.

Crumbling Hospitals, Schools, council services, businesses and roads
