I feel the solar roofs will have a big impact no matter where they are in the world. Even on a cloudy day, power can still be generated. There is an issue though with dirt. Cover a solar panel in dust and it becomes less effective however, a few years ago Pilkington Glass invented glass that would self clean when it rained. Perhaps this tech could be integrated into this.

 

More importantly (IMO) is the battery. Many countries have pondered for years on how to store excess power. These batteries are 'cheap' enough to add to new build houses and can store the power for use in power cuts and with the addition of solar tiles, energy bills could fall dramatically. In fact, some councils in the UK could retrofit homes with the battery and recover the costs over a number of years.

 

Solar panels on cars. Not that bothered!
