Yes, it's a lot of money and of course it is extortionate and extremely unfair but the banks are apparently allowed to get away with it.

There may not be much you can do but it would be helpful if you told us more about the account. Is it an ordinary current-account or is it a basic account? If it is a current account, did you ask for an overdraft and were you refused?

Are the charges levied in respect of payments which you made and which took you over your overdraft limit? Or are the charges simply mounted up on top of charges?

Yes you can reclaim them

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Hi Rik and welcome to CAG

In limited circumstances you may be able to challenge Paid Referral Fees. However, in most cases you stand little chance of a refund.

You need to tell us how the PRF's were incurred as BF says above.

We could do with some help from you

Hi thanks for replys ..

my bank is business account

i did ask for a overdraft facility but was declined.

Charges are from not being enough money in account to cover direct debits as i was waiting 30 days from the end of the month for payment from contractors.

Hope this helps if you need more info please ask.

Thank again Rikk

and look at the £1000'000 people got back.

Hi Rikkkkkk,

Stop calling the bank !!

Unless you record calls, do not speak to the bank. You can't prove anything they said verbally when they just want to get rid of you or placate you.

Great guidance here about this, and other, topics - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?439552-Guide-to-dealing-with-Customer-Service-Departments&p=4676004#post4676004

If you want to pursue this, put your complaint in writing to Barclays HQ. Chance of success is limited due to how they treat business customers but a written complaint is defo the best way to go.

Better still, do you have a friendly contact in the bank that you can speak to BEFORE the monthly charges are actually taken from your a/c. That's how I saved a lot of charges in past years.
