It will take the price of a first class stamp to 65p, and second class to 56p.

A stamp for large first class letter will rise by 2p to 98p. A large second class letter will go up by 1p to 76p

Royal Mail say this is necessary in order to continue with its Universal Service, where it delivers letters across the whole of the UK for the same price.

Let's hope that Caggers can buy stamps in advance if they can afford to, CB. As long as they just say first or second class, I don't think they expire. I just saw an article from a couple of years back that said that Royal Mail restricted the number of stamps available when the price changed.

I still have loads of Christmas design stamps from 2 years ago that just say 1st or 2nd and have confirmed with the post office that these will be treated as if they had been purchased at the new price.

Think a price increase of just ONE penny is fine, given that MOST every day items have increased by at least 5% plus..... Look at supermarket's the prices have increased by 6% to 10% and gas and electric, again near 6% increase... and council tax, gosh another raise of between 4% and 6% so again, one penny on a stamp is small fry compared really... And at best most folk send through post at Christmas, where's gas food etc is needed every day... I wish all prices for everything increased by just one penny...
