    Wink RBS Credit Card Charges

    All,

I sent a letter (SARicon) to RBSicon and they've cashed my cheque but sent a response stating that without an account number they can't workout the charges. The trouble is I used to have this Credit Card 2 years ago, since then I have shredded all statements as part of sping clean operation and also cancelled my card.

How do I get them to give my account number and look up on charges, surely I am not being unreasonable here???

    Please help.

    Hi, Heckmondwike.

Not an expert on this by any means, but I've done a bit of reading through on ICO – Information Commissioner's Office (Information Commissioners Office - they monitor Data Protection stuff.)

According to what I dug up previously (I also had no a/c no. info ...), I think this bit is useful:

"Under section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998 you are able to apply to see your personal information. You will need to put your request in writing, electronically or manually, and send it to the person or organisation you believe holds this information. Make sure you put your name and address and that you are requesting the information under section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998."

This suggests that you tell them who you are, where you live, and they are legally obliged to look and see what they've got on you.

Repeat your SARicon, refer to the first one (40 days based on this?), and for good measure, enclose a copy of a utility bill with your name and address on it. (Send it all First Class Recorded, of course.)

You could phone them and say you want to make a payment but don't have account numbers etc to hand. I'll bet they find you within seconds!

But that would be naughty wouldn't it!

Write to them again stating your date of birth and address details of where the account was held. They are talking complete nonsense when they say you need your account number. Good luck.

    Pam.

If anything I've said helps you then please feel free to tip my scales!
