    Default trainline cancelation charge

A couple of months back i purchased so advance train tickets on line. In one transaction i bought 4 ticket (2 out and 2 back). Unfortunately i had to change the date that i was travelling and because of the type of ticket i had bought the only way i could do this was to get a refund for the tickets that i had purchaced and buy more. Trainline charged mr £10 per ticket for the cancelation totalling £40. The tickets were only £84 total to start with so this is almost half of their value. This £10 charge seems to me to be a penalty - there is now way that it can cost them this much to process the refund therefore it could be considered a penalty "In-Terroreum" surely? any thought would be greatly appreciated,

I actually recently sent a letter of complaint to the Chief Executive of Trainline for the absolute appalling customer service received by their representatives.

They gave me incorrect information which resulted in me having to cancel my tickets - therefore i staed that i will not pay any adminicon fee!

    Awaiting a response!

whilst it may not cost the train company £10 to cancel a ticket they may lose out on a booking that could have had that seat. I wouldn't hold your breath for a refund.

They are not charging you a penalty, they are paying you a refund. The refund is not as much as you'd like; but I don't see how you can claim they are charging you anything, when it's they who are paying you.
