Yesterday, I went one of my local Sainsbury's for shopping.

As I was pushing a buggy it was quite difficult for me to carry a basket.

Although I picked a basket.

After putting all the stuff in the basket it seemed very heavy,

then I started to put some item in my baby buggy's basket

.when i went to the till I forgot to pay for those item which were in my buggy.

When I was going out,the alarm went off then security checked me and found those unpaid item,

my intention wasn't to steal anything at all.

I explain them mistake could happen..

I said sorry to the manager,

they took me and my baby to the premises and made me sign in a paper and kept my name, address and let me go.

They said I'm banned for life in any Sainsbury's in U.K.

Im totally broken.

i don't know what to do

.couldnt sleep or eat ever since.

I have two children to look after.

I'm just thinking this is the end of the world..

My husband still doesn't know anything.and I don't want him to know about all this

this is the only Sainsbury's I have as a local shop.

Everyone in my family go to that specific shop.

Can someone suggest me something for relief please?!!

What am I expecting next?

How much Do I have to give penalty charge?

If I don't pay it, will they send any debt collector to my address?

What is going to happen if I go the store next time?

PLEASE!!!PLEASE!!!

Someone help me PLEASE!!!!

Please don't beat your self up,

tell your husband or a close member of your family

and be honest that you forget the items were in the basket.

At the moment there is no point in worrying what may happen and if it helps,;

write down your feelings and be honest to your self about them.

Just stop worrying and realise that the letters are purely to obtain £150 from you, using your embarrassment and fears, as a way of obtaining money.

They won't come to your address to collect money.

All that will happen, is that you will receive a few letters to your address and then they will stop writing.

If you are worried about your family seeing the letters and any issues caused, then it is your choice whether you paid any money.

I suspect that DWF and Sainsburys will share the money received.

And you will won't be banned from Sainsburys or any other stores.

All that will happen is that the store you visited will know your details for a short period and then it will be forgotten.

We could do with some help from you.

Hi and welcome to CAG

I wouldn't be worrying over this. I would be ruddy fuming! Don't Sainsbury's security have any common sense or is it that everyone is a shoplifter. (rhetorical question)

Whilst it may be hard for you, I do recommend that you tell your husband but explain that you had made an error with no intention to steal.

Next, I would be writing a very strongly worded to Sainsbury's head office, firstly apologising for your error and stating that there was no intent involved. This was purely an error due to concentrating more on your child/children. Ask them why, when you paid for a full basket of goods would you then avoid paying for others? Shoplifters take a few items and do not pay at all.

Now, on to DWF. You will get a letter from them demanding around £150 for 'security costs'. This is totally bogus. There were no security costs involved at all. The security staff are paid anyway and part of their job is the prevention and detection of crime. You can safely ignore them but there will be quite a few letters and as DWF are a solicitor firm, they look official. Nah! Just the same as RLP. Toothless.

For more clarity. All you will get are letters. No debt collector will turn up at your home. If they have your phone number, they may try to ring you. Block them.

A point of interest. Everybody who enters any shop are there by invitation. Any store can remove that invitation at any time for no reason whatsoever.

OMG!! Thank you very much my dear. Your idea gave me a sense of relief....

Do you think I shouldn't go to Sainsbury's at all. Will they recognise me and call the police if I go there?!?

Read the last post in that thread.

And don't go back to sainsvurys. If they see you after they banned you then they might call police for tresspassing. You may be able to.go back after a few months but it wouldn't be a good idea to go back right now

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

shop elsewhere I found Sainsburys always dearer for groceries, and that is with years of experience avoiding their prices.

just be more alert when out with children - it is difficult but nothing new as we have all been shopping in the past with children.

Even though the shop is local to you, you will have to steer clear for about 6 months and even after that time they may still escort you out.

What about online shopping? Tesco and Asda are pretty good and cheaper than Sainsbugs.
