Several years after switching my main email account to gmail it appears that when using email clients , deleting an email does not actually delete it from gmail . I often wondered why there were so many emails in 'categories' and did ofte delete them however over the last few days I have spent some time deleting something like 3000 emails via webmail

Is there anyway round this , I use applemail on a macbook- my main computer and ipad as well as outlook on a windows desktop and also I have the emails delivered to my phone

It really is the proverbial pain in the butt , I was forced into action when my googledrive notified me that is was almost full- I keep scanned copies of all my communications with creditors as well as some largish setup files

Any opinion I give is from personal experience .

I am not a Mac user but, if it's similar to Windows in the account set up you will find a tick box that says 'Delete from server' r something similar. I MAP servers gives a choice of deleting on cloud of program or after so many days. This is specific to I MAP email accounts.

If you choose delete after X number of days then the will show with a line through the subject.

OS: thus may only be for windows but have a peep at account settings

Thanks, I have looked on outlook and it does that for all me other email accounts- I have historic ones I keep an eye on as well as a university one. From what I seem to have found out it is something peculiar to Gmail but am still investigating

Thanks for the response
