Hi all

First of all, I want to say a big THANK YOU to all forum moderators and members that are always on, answering all of our threads and questions. Well done to all of you. This site is the most helpful of all.

I'm trying to claim back the PPI for my O/H from Barclays. The account was opened back in 2004.

I SAR Barclays already and I just received the pack thru the post. At a quick look, I found that there were more payments going out to Barclays from this account such as:

1. PPI

2. Unpaids out

3. Paid Referral

4. Account Fee - this suddenly appeared at one point in the statements without any changes in the account type, and the fee was gradually going up.

5. Interest charged

We still got a lot of stuff from back then, that was received from Barclays, but we couldn't find anything (like letters or even an account Ts and Cs or anything that bears any signature). Does anybody know if all these can be claimed back from Barclays along with PPI?

Thanks in advance

TFD

Just found another one called "Reserve fee". Is over £20.

This one started back in 2009. Not a clue what this is either. It just popped out from one statement to another.

Hi TFD,

PPI - YES and you should start a thread in the PPI forum on this.

Additions Fees - YES, particularly if they were charged without your knowledge or consent. This can be dealt with on your thread here.

Unpaids out; Paid Referral fee; Interest charged - I'd say NO to these.

Hi slick :-)

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for not mentioning early, these are charges applied to a bank account that has O/D facility. So the charges were against O/D.

What about this "Reserved Fee" and there is something else that came out, "Guaranteed Fee". All these had nothing to do with interest applied. Interest was still applied to O/D.

Back in 2014 we received a letter simply headed " INTRODUCING NEW, SIMPLER OVERDRAFT CHARGES AND HELPFUL WAYS TO AVOID FEES" wich actually raised O/D interest over the roof.

Hi TFD,

It makes no difference with the OD. In the main, default fees charged on a current a/c are not going to be repaid.

Barclays introduced their system of Reserve Fees back in 2009 after the OFT (since disbanded) started their big test case about bank current a/c fees. It was basically a new name for their old trick of caning customers when they could least afford it. But you're not going to get them back IMHO.

Hi slick

Thanks

So, so far this is what we can and what we cannot claim back.

1. PPI - YES

2. Unpaids out - NO

3. Paid Referral - NO

4. Account Fee - YES

5. Interest charged - NO

6. Reserve fee - NO

7. Guaranteed Fee -NO

With the PPI they sent us a letter and ask us to contact them about it. That's what actually make us to SAR them.

With regards to the "Account Fee" can I put it together with PPI on the same spread sheet (8% interest back)? Or there has to be a different spread sheet with the letter from the library attached?

Thanks

TFD

Hi TFD,

See here for a link to the right PPI spready - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?330996-Latest-Spreadsheets-PPI-Claims-and-Charges-Claims-Dec-2011&p=3653267&viewfull=1#post3653267

Don't use a compound int't (CIS) spready for PPI.

You have a better chance of reclaiming Packaged a/c fees if you again use a simple spready, not compound. Before deciding on this, it would help if you tell us :-

1. How much is involved in Package fees.

2. Over what period you paid them.

3. Whether they changed your a/c to Additions status with, or without, your consent or knowledge.

So then is ok if I use the same one for both, which is the first one in the link above. Just need to change the title from PPI to account fees, right?

Thanks TFD

Hi slick

Before deciding on this, it would help if you tell us :-

1. How much is involved in Package fees.

all together about £250 charges

2. Over what period you paid them.

from 2005 till 2009

3. Whether they changed your a/c to Additions status with, or without, your consent or knowledge

I think they charge it how they were pleased. I couldn't find any letter to confirm any changes. Was stopped for a few months in 2006 then started again. Didn't even know we pay this.

Funny thing is that, they stopped charging this together with the PPI in 07/2009.

Thanks

TFD

Yes, use the first linked spready - one for the PPI and one for the packaged fees.

By the way, where was the PPI charged.

Carefully go through the bank statements with 2 different coloured highlighter pens. Mark every PPI fee in one colour and every package fee in the other colour. Then enter all the highlighted fees on to the appropriate spready with dates.

Take you time so you get every one, then let us know what the spreadies show for each type of fee and the interest.

Hi all

Right, all done.

By the way, where was the PPI charged.

What you mean by where was charged, slick?

PPI - 347.2 + int = 599.28

Acc - 250.5 + int = 431.75

both by today's date

Thanks
