Never heard of this before. I would contact the CRA for an explanation. I can't see how turning 60 can affect a credit score. If it is down to age only then that would be (IMO) discrimination but happy to be proved wrong.

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

This is what the website says

"Your Age

The risk of you defaulting on a credit agreement generally decreases with age - but it's not a straight line relationship.

What this means is that when you are relatively young, your credit score is adversely affected by your age.

As you reach middle age, your credit score is starting to have an increasingly better influence from your age.

Your middle years are when you are typically at your most Credit Active and statistics prove that in your early middle age you are best equipped to pay your commitments as they fall due.

As you get older, the financial commitments that come from a growing family often present a heavy drain on your disposable income and your Credit Score will temporarily lower.

In late middle age, once the nest has flown and income is peaking

- typically when you are between 45 and 55 years of age

- the impact of age on your credit score becomes strong again.

Only when you are nearing pensionable age does the positive effect start to lessen, as your income is typically reduced.

Even though this may not accurately reflect your own circumstances, it is true for the significant majority.

As with all elements of a properly derived credit scorecard, the impact of your age on your credit score is proven statistically from a very large sample of consumers."

  • 2 months later...

why would it be- it is all about assessing risk for the future.

If I won the lottery big time that wouldnt affect my future earnings potential. If, as a big lettery winner I suddenly started to apply for multiple credit cards the lenders may well smell a rat. They wont know how much money I have but they sure as hell have statistics on peopel may age and credit cards so that is what they go by. All just numbers/averages.

I have a negative on my credit report because I don't have a credit card. I am also very near to my

60th birthday. During my life I've had four consecutive mortgages and paid them back perfectly but this isn't mentioned on my credit report.

Although credit reports never show how much money you have in your bank account, I think they do know.

The DWP use credit reference agencies to see if a benefit claimant is hiding money which proves my point.

Therefore if you won the lottery any lender would know you had loads of money in your bank account and should be happy to lend you money. Currently I have a large bank balance of non-borrowed money so I find it strange that I am marked down for not having a credit card. My current bank balace would easily cover any money I would be allowed to borrow on a credit card.
