Default Barclays Bank Counter-Offer Half my Charges...

    hi,

let me begin by thanking the community as a whole, for all the advise they have all provided.

i have gone to stage two (i guess) of the process of reclaiming my bank charges. i wrote to Barclaysicon Bank on 29th June 2006 requesting a copy of all my statements etc. did the math and calculated that i'm owed £865.00 over the 5 years of charges that they have imposed. sent of my second letter requesting the above sum, i have just received a reply of a counter offer from Barclays for the amount of £420.00, which is very tempting just before Xmas, but i think i will hang in there.

    extract from their latest letter:

"Despite my comments above in relation to your views, on this occasion, and without any admissions of liability, i am willing to offer the sum of £420.00 towards the total amount you are seeking for both of your accounts. This is with the cost and inconvenience inherent in a further dispute in mind and is intended as gesture of goodwillicon, in Full and finalicon settlement of your complaint. If you would like to accept my offer please sign and return the enclosed form in the pre-paid envelope provided. I will arrange for the payment to be credited direct to your account within seven working days of receipt of your acceptance at this office."

having read the Halifaxicon thread, it makes me want to hang in there for the full amount. going to have a look at the forum to see what my next move will be, if any one has some advise it would be very much appreciated, thanks.

    Welcome to the site.
Tempting as it is (and Barclaysicon know) you will get the full amount.
Your next step is a letter before actionicon.Get this out straight away as they have already acknowledged the prelim with an offer.
Give them the 14 days before filing for court.
It is possible they will come back with an increased offer.
On this timescale it is likely that you could have them having to submit the defence to your claim by 2 week in December.
Obviously up to you how you move forward but I understand how tempting things will be.
If you can hold out then you will obviously benefit from the full amount.

If you are sent a private message directing you for advice or support with your issues to another website, this is your choice. Before you decide, consider the users here who have already offered help and support.Private message facilities are offered for users to communicate issues that are/or could be seen to be inappropriate for posting on the main forum.Site rules explain this in more detail. If you are approached by private message with a view to asking you to visit another website, please inform the site team via the report icon.

Hi there, my situation shadows yours. Can you tell me if you have found the lbaicon letter that you have been advised to use as the one I have found only seems relevant if you havn't had a reply or any offer, I feel a bit stupid as there is so much information on here I hope I haven't gone straight past it, good luck by the way.
