Dear All,

I am hoping someone could assist my wife here with her rejected Santander for a Debenhams Store card.

Herself and her mother, where in the store at the same time and both took out a newly offered card at the same time, and spent near the same amount and never again used it since,

All they needed was some wedding stuff at the time.,

Now a month ago or so Santander got intouch with her mother out of the blue and said "hey we owe you some money" and she got £2500.

The wife wrote off to them, and i think they have just fobbed her off,

I have uploaded their reply and can be seen below.

It would be fantastic if anyone can let me know if we can turn this around and put it back in our favour..

I feel she is being mistreated and fobbed off with a standard letter

Regards

PDF file now attached,

Many Thanks

Was your wife working or not at the time and can she prove it?

I guess your wife's circumstances may have been different. There's no harm in taking it to fos and it won't cost anything, try and get some more evidence if possible.

Hi All,

Just an update, wrote back to Genforth and they wrote back fobbing us off with our own information.

Completed a complaints form to Financial Ombuds.

Last week Financial Ombuds called up , and asked a few questions and said i dont see why this cant be upheld, and they are going to make them pay up,

The total PPI that was spent was £186 about 17 years ago,

What would the potential settlement figure be based on that ?

Thanks

You'd have to use the cisheet to work that out

Hello All,

FOS upheld complaint,

Cheque from Gentforth today for £888

Where do we stand in returning the cheque saying we want more,

Reason why, wifes mother, has same card, and same PPI payments and got £2.5k

Any ideas.

Thanks

Have you used the spreadsheet, as advised previously, to work out how much you should be owed?.

If your wife is owed close to £888, and your mother-in-law should have been owed close to £888 but got £2500, I'd not risk rocking the boat!

Surely your first step should be to find out how much each should have got, and then decide if you want "to take the money & run" or ask for more for your wife.

Depends on whether you can show that you paid more than they've offered.

Your mother in law may well have spent more on the card then your wife did. She might not have paid off her balance by the same amount each month. There're plenty of reasons why different amounts would be offered.
