Actually the BBC first covered these issues before your own claim(s) Stephen, regionally, and more recently on Radio 5 in 2005. The fact a well respected show on Radio 4 is highlighting the issue of unfair bank charges is a good thing.

In terms of 'bringing them up to date' I would note that no-one in the UK has secured a favourable judgment from a UK court specifically on unfair bank charges. Cases settle all the time and they create no legal precedent - we need claims to be defended & contested to create legal certainty.

Until a senior court rules on the issue of bank charges, penalty clauses & unfair terms in consumer contract regulations etc., the law will remain untested. This could take some years, particularly if, for example, in your own case you win or lose, you could be looking at appeals either way.

Accordingly, we should be looking at this issue both politically & legally.

A mass campaign where ordinary people challenge bank charges and complain to their MPs might actually be a faster route to change? And when it comes to mass campaigns, publicity from any meida outlet is crucial.

That is why I think the Bank Action Group & others can play a very important role in getting the issue of unfair bank charges on the top of the political agenda.
