Default Made to leave metro with a valid ticket.

    Hello

This morning I was on the metro from bury to manchester. I bought my ticket from the bury station. Just before the next stop (10 seconds) there was an announcment. "Please can eveyone have their tickets ready for inspection at the next stop". The metro stoped and about 10 people got on the metro checking everyone tickets. Only about 30 peopke on the metro. I could not find my ticket (was given about 20 seconds). I was told I would have to leave the metro and find my ticket which I stupidly did thinking that metro would wait a while. Anyway I then proceed to check all my pockets and the metro leaves. 5 seconds later I find my ticket in a compartment in my wallet that I never use. I dont use the metro that often so did not expect to need to show my ticket in such a small amount of time 1 min. I then got on the next metro 12 mins later which made me miss my connection at the other end.

Is there anything I can do I should I just put it down to experiance.

    Thanks Mark

Complain, complain, complain. Loudly. Mention the embarassment you were caused, being treated like a fare dodger in front of a metroful of people. Talk of the humiliation by being made to disembark, when you had in fact done nothing wrong. Go on about the fact that despite the fact that you did have a valid ticket, you missed your connection. Reitarate that you were given hardly any time to look for your ticket, and that you never even got an apology. Really go to town on the fact that this country works on the principle of innocent until proven guilty, yet, you were treated exactly on the opposite. Etc... etc...

I am sick to the back teeth of those goons, who, because they wear a uniform of any kind, think it gives them the right to treat people like dirt.

Let us know what response, if any, you get.

Apologies to people who I was in the process of helping, I may be gone some time.

Yes I would write to them and complain, I would have been very embarrassed at having to get off the train, and very angry if I missed my connection because of it.

If anything it is definitely worth a go, you have nothing to lose.

The rules do state that a passenger must show his ticket 'on demand', but like you I've been in a similar situation and couldn;t find it - and was made to purchase anoyther (no fine or anything). When I found the ticket I took it to the transport offices, showed them both, and got a refund.

I did produce my ticket on demand. I was under the assumsion that they would actually allow you to find your ticket. But like I said I dont travel on the metro that often. Why not tell you when the metro sets off from the previous stop rather than waiting 20 seconds before the metro is due to stop. Why can they not get on the metro and anyone who has not produced the ticket by the next stop has to get off. I am sure there are many other ways of checking tickets without affecting paying customers. I know for next time to keep my ticket in my hand rather than in any one of my many pockets.

    Mark.
