hi, one of my friends is not well, she was on sick leave about month ago (problems with back), she works in the warehouse where lifting is involved. she is not well again so she did ask doctor to give her a letter stating that she can work but is unable to lift parcels over 10 kg, doctor stated on the note that she can lift only between 2-4 kg.

when she gave it to her employer he send her home until letter expires which is 2 months. She can work but is unable to lift, they used to move other girls to do different thinks before.

do they have to pay her for this time even when she will be at home for next 2 months?

thanks for any help

If she has to lift boxes 10kg as a regular part of the job, and can't, she isn't fit to wok.

Home and on sick pay/ SSP is reasonable. They dont have to pay, no.

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

Thanks Emmzzi, they have send her a letter asking for informal meeting to find out if she can come back before her sick leave expires.

that sounds hopeful. Warn her they may ask her to see occ health so she knows that is normal!!

It might be worth enquiring whether any form of light duties might be available while your friend is unable to cover full duties, since its a warehouse, maybe a temp move to recoup or packaging department, dependant on the business. Most warehouse have a wide area of working areas, its worth asking to be moved for a while, while her back has time to heal fully, the union should be able to help your friend in talking with her employer if she isn't confidant enough to talk herself. Get her talk to her team manager, better to be at work than off, which the company will look at favourably.
