Exclamation RFS Loans say this doesn't apply to Personal Loans?

After getting the charges attached to my personal loan (to purchase a car), from RFS, i sent the Request for Repayment of Charges. I have received a long letter back from them saying, and i quote:'' With regard to the reference to the Office of Fair Trading in your letter, their recent published findings, and the media attention surrounding them, relate solely to the unfair charges applied to Credit Cards and not Personal Loans...... We consider the level of charges we currently apply to be a true reflection of our cost and not above average when compared to Finance providers'' (One entry on my list of charges was for £150.00 - yes one hundred and fifty pounds, for FBS Letter Costs!!); is this true, am i wasting my time with this? They have charged for Arrears letters, unpaid direct debits costs etc, the same as the banks and credit card company's. Can somebody tell me if it's worth me writing the next letter or just put up with these charges? I really can't see the difference between charges on a personal loan and that from a bank or credit card - can anybody advise me?

    Thanks, Penny

Your bank are being a bit disingenuos in saying that the OFT report was solely
    concerned with c/card charges.

At the very outset of the report which referred to unfair terms in Consumer Credit
contracts they said this-" The Principles [unfair terms. ED] have wider implications
for analagous standard default terms in other agreements including those for
mortgages, current bank accounte and store cards".

Further into the report, the above statement is repeated with an added rider-
"We invite the banks to reconsider such charges accordingly".

As the banks refused to move, the OFT have siad that whilst they still agree with
those sentiments, they accept that £12 is not necessarily the correct threshold
for bank charges. Accordingly, the Competition Commission is looking at bank
charges on behalf of the OFT.

So, go for it and get your money back.

Penny - they are having a laugh!!!

They'd better pray that letter never ends up in front of a judge

I've heard some Bull Sh*T in my time and that sure takes the biscuit!!

Just count very quickly 1,2,3 and go get them!! It never ceases to amaze me how these companies have such little respect for customers and treat people like they have air between the ears - if that letter is supposed to be the thing that convinces you to leave them alone - then I dread to think what their defence would be at court stage

I reckon you go get them and show them who is "BOSS" (ROTFLMAO)
