Hello there new to the site, think my first post was in the wrong place so i will do this properly.
Chasing the A&L for charges from Aug 06 total £500. They refused an overdraft extension when i asked for help due to first few dd charges, obviously saw me coming and a great opportunity to take my money.
Sent the first letter, got bog standard reply, charges dont apply to banks blah blah. Now writing up the second letter.
I am worried sick now as the A&L looks to be a toughie.
Any tips would be much appreciated, i have taken time to read through threads and FAQ
30/10/2006 - first request sent to A&L
4/11/2006 - denied, blah blah
Don't worry A&L are not as tough as they try to make out at first. Read through more threads (especially in the successes forum) and you will see they have the same pattern for everyone. They will deny charges are wrong, you take out a claim against them, they will lodge Intention to Defend, and then pay up.
A&L have stated publicly that they will settle all claims, but will close the accounts of anyone who claims. So you should now make sure you have another account before starting action, and move everything into that.
I second that, they seem to be following exactly the same steps for every case, even down to their template letters, filed my N1 last week, they acknowledged the same day and said they were defending all of the claim just waiting for this bit now:
A&L DO pay up eventually, but they do not make it easy for you. All you have to do is stay resolute.
You are in the right here; A&L are the ones in the wrong.
Worrying is natural, but you can also have confidence based on the many successful claims made and documented on the forum. Keep reading and take heart!
All you must do is remember that you are reclaiming your money that they have unlawfully taken from you. What are you scared of? You should not be afraid after all you were strong enough to make the decision to claim your charges back. Best of luck!
Just a question, is there only the £500 to claim back or have you also looked back over the past 6 years?
Don't worry about the A&L, they will give in to pressure, but you are going to have to go all the way to MCOL to get YOUR money back. But don't worry, there are plenty of people on here who have already trodden the path you are just starting on and been successful. Just keep the faith

there could be more as i had problems last year but i didnt include that as it is the way they have dealt with me recently that has hacked me off. I dont want to sound a walk over but last year was my fault and i resloved it. They ain't taking nothing off me now.
Got a parachute account sorted and i am moving all of my d/d before they shut the account to avoid more problems

None of our business, I know, but ANY charges they have made are UNLAWFUL.
It doesn't matter whether the problem was caused by our poor money management or otherwise, they can't make profits from telling us we are O/D. They should only be covering their costs.
If you don't mind a friendly suggestion, pretzle06, once this claim is settled why not check on the charges you've had over the last 6 years?
You may not feel you are up to the fight at the moment, but you have nothing to lose by thinking about it. As we keep saying on the forum "It's your money".
Whatever you decide, there will always be several friendly eyes on your progress, and help if you need it.
I filed my N1 on 1st November and today received a letter telling me I am overdrawn and not to use my card or cheque book until the overdraft is cleared which must be by 13th November (pay day 15th) well once they have paid me back MY money, my account will be looking very, very healthy.
