Feeling sick writing this.

Was caught the other day in TK Maxx for taking a few low cost items.

Was taken in the back room and asked to produce all items which I did.

They said they had cctv footage but I wasn't offered to see it.

They then asked me for my id and asked to sign two forms

and advised that the RLP would be in touch to claim the incurred administrative costs.

I didn't even try to deny my wrongdoing and offered several times to pay for the items there and then.

The security, however, said that there was no need for it and I was simply no longer allowed in the store.

I have to say that I've had kleptomaniac urges in the past but this was the first actual case of theft

I advised the security that I suffer from depression but they simply didn't respond to that.

I'm not trying in any way to defend my actions, what I did was out of order and I'm still feeling sick about it.

The police weren't called, I was just told to expect the letter from RLP.

I just want this nightmare to be over.

Does anyone know how soon I should expect the letter,

I just want to pay whatever they ask and forget about it all.

I'm worried sick about my husband finding out,

just imagining him finding the letter in the letter box makes me feel nauseous!

I know I'll have to speak to him about it but I am simply not mentally ready to do it now,

I want to go and see my GP first to either increase my current medication or change it to something else,

I simply can't trust myself any more

This is the most embarrassing thing I've ever experienced and feel so very ashamed!

You had better not pay those fleecers a penny. They cannot do a single thing other than send letters. The woman behind is is despicable which is why she runs a company like RLP. RLP are a private company, have no legal standing, have no relevance in the law, have no influence with the law. THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING.

They are a bunch of chancers who prey on vulnerable people just like you and then threaten them into paying. Once you realise that they are full of hot air and nothing more, you can use their letters as toilet paper. Why? Because thats all they are good for.

totally ignore RLP

the letter as far as we know have nowt identifying who they are from on the outside anyway.

Hello there.

Sadly, I think you will receive a letter trail for a while, but nothing further should happen.

I think you should talk to your GP about whatever underlying problems have led to this sad episode and get the support that you need.

If you open one and it says RLP, just scrunch it up and throw it in the bin.

Not necessarily from what we've seen in the past, that's the problem. They could decide that you're a good income source and carry on. That's one of the reasons we recommend not to pay.

On what grounds can they continue the harassment after the payment has been made?

Crazy Mama, these people aren't worth worrying about, honestly.

Keep your money and concentrate on looking after yourself, speaking to your GP and getting some good support to help you feel better about things.

Hi Crazy Mama. While I fully agree with the other posters and not to pay anything there is another option but firstly, I do recommend you get an urgent appointment with your GP. Do you have access to the local mental health team?

As for your husband. Sooner rather than later. It will look a lot worse if your husband discovers what you did. I know it will be hard for you but if he is the supportive type, he will be angry then once you show him this thread, he may understand a bit better.

Now, the other option (should you choose to do this). Once you get the first letter, write back and enclose some proof of your mental health issues. I confess I have only seen one thread where this was used but it was successful. RLP have a duty of care to ensure that you are treated as 'vulnerable'.

Having said all that, if your GP gets your meds right, you may feel stronger and more able to cope with the rubbish that RLP send.
