    Default Barclaycard & DPA 1998

I have made a request to Barclaycard for details of charges over the last six years. They have told me that the last six months of statements will be supplied for £10 under the DPA.

However, statements older than six months are apparently kept on microfiche and not on a PC database so do not come under the act. So it will cost £3 per copy statement.

Anybody, got any ideas how to get round this one?

File a claim for 'up to £1000' - I bet they soon find out how much they owe you then.

I can scarcely believe that this is true. What is more efficient in terms of access, space, a hard disk or microfiche?

And if it is true, what evidence is there that a microfiche is not a relevant filing system.

Complain to the IC - although by all accounts he is a bank poodle. But complain anyway.

    Default DPA

Professional legal opinion is that the Act refers to ALL records held in whatever form be they electronic, microfiche or paper.

I don't doubt it at all, but a bald statement like that won't persuade the bank if they don't want to supply the information. Is it possible to get some authority for this view.

Doesn't Barlcays have internet banking? On some internet banking, statements ar available as far back as 4 years or more - i.e. on disk.

    Default Barclays &DPA

I don't know about Barclaysicon but Lloydsicon TSB internet banking statements go back to 1 Jul 2002 - when their internet banking started. I assume Barclays system will be similar.

As regards the DPA I'll try further on that later in the week

I am sure that must be right and I am certain that people on Internet banking aren't accessing some random access microfiche system.

Maybe their lies will find them out.

Barclaycards online statements only go back six months. I think I might complain to the Financial Ombudsmanicon. It might not do any good but at least it will cost Barclaysicon a few quid.

I sent a letter to Barclaycard asking for this info (or a refund, naturally) - and so far (2 weeks) it has been ignored - in 6 weeks I will go to the Ombudsmanicon.

I am in no rush for the money - but I want to see CC companies and banks abide by the law.

lol, how is that thread hijacking?

I contributed what seemed to be an on-topic post, my intention being to hopefully supply bobbmar with an answer to his question "Anybody, got any ideas how to get round this one?"

But if you prefer, i'll stop looking for similar information on threads before I post, and just fill up the forum with duplicate info. That'll be useful then.
