Hi, Anyone with any experience of proving a flood for insurance purposes due to heavy rainfall. I have had damage to my property due to water rising up through the floor every time we get a heavy rainfall. It is not rising ground water. It seems just to be surface water. Zurich has said I'm not covered, because I can't actually prove a flood and that my damp proofing is not adequate. Does anyone know if any experts (not too expensive) who can help with this. My building surveyor was useless. And does anyone have experience of Zurich buildings insurance. Are they usually quite reasonable? I've made a complaint to the Financial Services Ombudsman, but it didn't get me anywhere. Thanks!

You would be best finding a surveyor in your area that specialises in flood risk issues. If you have had a problem where you live, then I expect you may find that neighbours have had the same issues. It may be the build type, lack of drainage, the land where you live i.e many different factors. It may be worth making enquires locally to see whether it is local issue and if so what others have done about it.

If you can't gain atleast a couple of expert opinions that might help with any court actions against Zurich, it might not be worth it. I have read of other situations involving Zurich and they are quite willing to argue the toss, by defending any action using their own experts.

So you might end up not being able to get compensation via Insurance and have to spend money on measures that would hopefully prevent future flooding.

We could do with some help from you.
