Hi everyone,

New here, so apologies in advance if this has been asked before.

I have recently received a letter in the post from Control Account PLC about my owing them £29.49

for money outstanding to DHL International in relation to charges incurred by HM Customs & Excise.

Today I received a 2nd letter stating I have 14 days to make the payment. The rest of the letter is pretty much the same.

I proceeded to look into my Amazon and Ebay history for the past year, as I am unable to record

when I may have purchased something from outside the EU that could incur a levy of £30.

I failed to find anything for the last 14 months, so I can only think that it may be something I may have bought longer ago, or that it's fake.

Either way, I was advised to register on here and NOT phone Control Account PLC, and get some good advice from you good folk here,

so my question now is,

how do I find out what exactly I owe money for and should I write to them and/or pay them?

I don't mind paying if it's legit, but frankly, their website looks well dodgy

(for one, they don't even have an SSL certificate for their "payment" gateway!!),

so I am very uncomfortable with this entire situation.

Thanks in advance!

Jaco

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi again.

today I received in a the post Control Account PLC, a compliment slip that included copies of a DHL express delivery

for an item I purchased on eBay in April 2013, which was delivered via China to me here.

It was for a touch screen monitor I bought.

The total amount of customs duty, which includes VAT and admin fee is £21.99.

Obviously there's no way for me to square this customs duty off with DHL directly now,

since Control Account have taken over the debt, so to speak,

so what is the suggested course of action to now take?

Thus far I sent them the letter to prove that the debt is mine.

They have now responded with the copy of the DHL paperwork.

I am willing to pay the debt,

but I am not willing to pay them,

especially not over the phone or the internet

as their website has no SSL secure payment gateway and

frankly, I don't trust them with my card details if I were to ever call them, which I won't.

Still, I'd like to clear the debt if possible without it causing me any headaches,

so any suggestions on the course of action to now take, will be appreciated :)
