    Default Newspaper £10 Cruise Offer

    Hello again

I am indispute with a very large newspaper group. A few years ago i collected tokens in a national newspaper to obtain a £10 cruise. I complied with all their conditions and got offered a cruise in March 2005 but because of the massive amount of interesticon in this offer my cruise was cancelled. I wrote asking when i would be offered another cruise but got no response. The telephone number given out to all of us waiting for info was a recorded message saying "they were looking into this and please be patient". Eventually the recorded message changed to "submit your details and we will assess again if you are eligible". I wrote again submitting my details and low and behold I am no longer eligible.

Their letter also states that there were more conditions over and above the ones which were advertised in the T&C with the offer however, they wiil not tell me what these are and they will no longer enter into any discussion with me.

I believe from looking on the holidayicon truths website that this matter will be aired on working lunch soon. I want my cruise for £10. I believe i have complied with all the T&C that were first indicated to me and they have breached the contract, so i am planning on instigating legal action.

With the exception of the newspapers that i bought and the time taken to write letters etc i have not actually paid out any money. However i still believe that I should be able to have a cruise for £10. I want to price up the original cruise that was offered to me and sue them for the cost of this minus the £10.

This is very similar to the farce a few years ago with a well known vacuum cleaner co. Do you think because I have not actually lost any money i would stil be successful? I was really looking forward to that cruise. Go on cheer me up and say yes please!

You're right - Working Lunch has covered this one often, some respondents received satisfaction othes didn't. As to you being successful in taking action against then, you can aways try, but even the most rudimentary T&Cs have a get out clause these companies can use to avoid meeting their responsibilities.

Don't know... All I can tell you is that I (and 5 family members) DID go to Florida on a hoover!! I just persisted and persisted... I got the actual telephone number to a PERSON and called every single day (we were on 1st name terms!) until they gave in and gave us the holidayicon!

Don't give up - be a pest - I'm sure you'll be heading off on that ship sooner or later!

Abbey - 547.00 settled in full.
    Second claim: £204 WON.
Barclaycard - 142.88 incl interest due WON BY DEFAULT as they didn't even bother entering a defence. Barclaycard paid up £184.88.

    MBNA - Concluded £634.31
    Capital One Concluded £148
Kinda disappointed I've no more banks to go after now...
