Yes all sorts of birds will use roofs from time to time. I quite often see herons on nearby roofs, as they rest up for short periods. In some countries you will see massive nests built by storks.

Was this thread parting some useful information or just an observation ?

nb. Make sure you have accidental damage on buildings insurance, as damage done by large birds may not be covered by a standard policy.

We could do with some help from you.

Thank you for the replies,(cough, cough).I am surprised no one has seen a pink elephant using an umbrella to balance itself on the roof.

When I mentioned to someone about the ducks on the roofs, they said that they had never seen it happen. So,I thought I would use this forum to see if anyone had seen ducks perch on roofs.I do appreciate that birds do perch on roofs, but as ducks have web feet,it will be difficult for them to take grip. Also ducks are aquatic.

Herons do not have webbed feet,so they will be able to grip. But seagulls have webbed feet and they perch on roofs, but ducks feet are far bigger.

This not a scientific study,I am just curious.

Regards,John.
