When you are phoning the banks on the 0845 number do you realise you are putting more money in the banks pocket at your expence.

uhm...0845 isn't the same as 0870...0845 is charged at local rate, and is therefore cheapest for everyone. 0870, on the other hand is national/premium rate, and is, indeed, a pain in the nethers.

0845 is not necessarily the cheapest. If you have free eve and weekend calls on your landline or mobile you will not get a free call if you call a non-geographical number.
