Hi
Have never posted on here before but have read the site many times. I recently hand delivered a letter to the Halifax bank with the stated £10 in and using the template from this website, by the next morning there was a letter from the Halifax on the doorstep saying they were very sorry I was unhappy with the service and they would be happy to talk directly to me. They also told me that I did not have to pay a £10 and they had put this back into my account, however for manual interventions they did not by law have to do this because it would take too much time. I have not actually answered the letter but my bank statements arrived approx 1 week later. Do I need to reply to this letter and have a face to face meeting or am I able to just proceed with claiming back my expenses, I am busy plowing through the statements at the moment. Any advice?
I hand delivered a letter to the Halifax 2 weeks ago with the staturory £10 in it and the letter as per the template on this website. By the next morning I had a letter through my door from the halifax stating that they were very sorry that I was unhappy, that they would be happy to talk things through in the branch with me, and to let them know. They also said that I did not need to pay £10 and had put that into my account for me, however they were unable to do the part on the letter about manual interventions as they were not required by law to do this and it would also take too long. Approx 1 week after this all of my statements arrived through my door and I am currently going through these at the moment. My problem is do I need to go and see them face to face or will this jeopardise what I am doing if I do/dont? Or is this a panic reply by the bank because of what is happening to them at the moment. Any advice?
No, don't go and see them. You've got your statements (and for free too... good work!). This is all you were asking them for, so there's nothing more you need to speak to them about. All you need do now is add up your charges and send your prelim request for repayment!
Hope this helps, if it has, click my scales above!
Thanks
Mike
Sorry, meant to add that what they've said about manual intervention is fine! They should also have said they are not required by law to record this... is that what you meant?
A big NO you don't ,Its the usual fob off rubbish they try, stick to the plan as per this site.Do all correspondance in writing then if and its a big if they do go to court you have a record of everything.Add up your staements on the spread sheet in bank templates, send of the prelim letter with the spread sheet, wait 14 days. Then do your letter before action with updated spreadsheet.wait 14 days then do an money claim online(M.C.O.L.) or take an N1 form to court. The court stage is the only time when you use the 8% added on as persuant of the County Courts Act 1984.Refuse any offers of goodwill that you will probably get from the Bank,If you do accept it do so as a Partial offer and not repeat not as a Full and final payment.Do reply to these offers as above.Stick to your time schedule as per this site. Then they know you mean business. Most of all don't panic and be patient.best of all read lots of threads and the FAQ's.inside out.Regards Nigel

yes I think that is right, sorry about that. Your advice has been good I feel sick at the thought of doing this but like everyone else I am in this position because they have charged so much they have gone over the overdraft limit themselves
No need to feel sick about it. It's a bit nerveracking to start with, but keep on reading the success stories and you'll feel loads better. A friend of mine just got £3,100 back from HSBC, this really does work. I'm hoping for my payout by the end of next week How much are you claiming, if you don't mind me asking?

All the help and advice you need to win is here. Its the banks who feel sick knowing their little honey pot has been found. Any problems PM me i will help.
Sorry I have taken so long to get back to you, I was doing my calculations. It is not a lot of money only about 1,100 however this has only been since Oct 05 and most of from May 06 so I am really mad about it. At least I know I can give it a go.
All adds up though, hey? I'd say £1,100 is quite a bit. It's the equivalent of a months salary for a lot of people. Good luck, you're on the right track.
Yes I plowed my way through statements that I had received starting from 1998, and up until last year I had paid no bank charges. This occured because of another problem with the Halifax, that is why it is only from Oct last year. You are all fab and have such good advice because you dont know if your doing the right or wrong things and to have a forum like this is excellent. Thanks to all of you
