Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I'm primarly intrested in recovering bank charges from my Barclays current account but the more I read on here the more I'm now thinking about credit cards both present and closed accounts and my question is this; I had two credit cards approx four years ago which I'd run up around £10,000 between them, I was made redundant as a self employed IT contractor and as the payment protection on them was invalid due to being self employed (I didn't know this until after the event) I eventually settled on a lower amount than the outstanding balances, so could I still claim for missed/late payments etc.
Yes you can! Simply they were unlawful charges, whatever you agreed regarding a settlement on the account isn't in question here, their unlawful charges is a sepetate issue!
Thanks for that I'll get in touch with the companies, am making a start today with my current account, went through all the old statements last night and found that Barclays have ripped me off for £1785 over the last 6 years, what also apalled at how steeply the paid refferal fee has increased over the last 2 years from £20 to £30.
Yes I was gobsmacked when I saw my husbands old account, their fees went up steadily over the years! Keep us informed and make sure you read as much info as you can here which will help you!
