Hi I was burgled on the 8th September, I am Insured with Link Insurance and they have instructed a number of different companys to replace many of the items stolen.....

One of the comanys is SBS Insurance, they have been instructed to replace my PC.

The PC I had was a specially built PC with very hi specifications costing £2500, specificially made fo multi function and gaming purposes.

The problem I have is that I recieved a letter this morning form SBS with a replacement PC the specification of which is cheap and basic, in the letter it says this......You can upgrade from the product listed as it is representative of the liability set by your insurance company. You are then liable for any difference in cost if any is resulted...

I need some advice here, surely I should get back the equivilant of what was stolen.....Can anyone help please.....

Of course they must replace it like for like. Can you get hold of the spec. of your old pc or have you not got a receipt/invoice or something ? If you can, or you in fact remember the spec, simply write to them and explain this. £2500 is a hell of a lot for a pc, even a gaming one, was it Alienware ?

Pam.

If anything I've said helps you then please feel free to tip my scales!

I wouldn't get a solicitor involved yet. I'm sure you can sort this out with the insurer. SBS should have validated your claim and advised your insurer what the spec of your PC was and how much they would charge them to replace on a like-for-like basis. Obviously, the insurer would get the PC from SBS at a much cheaper price than your dad paid for it because of all the discounts they get from their suppliers.

I would suggest you write directly to your insurer detailing the spec of your PC and advising that you consider their suggested replacement to be much inferior. Ask them to instruct SBS to review their assessment of your claim. If SBS are unable to provide an equivalent spec of PC, you are entitled to a full cash settlement at market value (not at the insurer's liability)
