    Default Before I Start

    Hi All,

Looking to start filling in the spreadsheet for A&L, before I do so I just wanted to check: for many months I have been charged £5 per month as a "Monthly OD Charge" for dipping into my authorised overdraught; am I also able to claim for this or is this a fair charge?

    Thanks,

    Creepy

It's fair, creepy jim, if you find it was your monthly fee for having an overdrafticon facility. You should see this on your statements - you are a step ahead of me.
    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. That answers my question

I have actually decided not to go ahead with alliance and leicester just yet, since they are closing accounts - tried opening a new bank account and two banks have turned me down so far (think my credit rating is stuffed >.< )

So will start with my Lloydsicon (which has been closed for a year) and come back to a&l once I have a new account

Good idea. My account is meant to be closing on 20th October so we'll see if they do it. I have a small overdrafticon on it and they were going to let me know how to pay it off but they havn't yet!! Thought i'd let them do all the chasing now and see how they like it!!
    Good luck with Lloydsicon

i was wondering the same thing only because my "monthly OD charge" seems to fluctuate from £5 per month up to £30 per month. Kind of feels like a penalty but wanted to ask if i should include it before calculating my spreadsheet and sending my lbaicon.

    any advice would be great

    thanks

If it is a service charge that you have agreed to you cannot claim it, but if it is only applied when you go over your OD limit, it is a penalty and can be claimed.

When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
