Cancelled direct debits

Hi, having big problem with RBS icon

! Got an account with RBS and cancelled all direct debits at the beginning of the year as there was no money going into the account. When I stopped using the account it was £2 in credit. Now I am getting letters saying that my account is £450 overdrawn and they are going to send baliffs round unless I pay it. I have rang RBS today and they have confirmed that all the direct debits were cancelled but that 2 companies still tried to take the money,because of this they have charged me the usual ridiculous amounts! Are they allowed to do this?

You will be able to claim all the charges back but I think when you cancel a direct debit icon

you are supposed to tell the other company too so that they dont keep trying. I dont have one to hand but if you check the standard direct debit agreement it should say who is liable, your bank or the company? Guess the guys on here will be able to give more input, am bit busy with midgets at moment to check through the web and this site for more info I am afraid or I would. But I would read through the FAQ's and then get a SAR icon

sent off to your bank. While you are waiting for your statments read through the site and familiarise yourself with the process and other users threads so you know what to expect. The bank will give you. all the money back plus any charges you have received. if you keep your statements all the better but I guess if you only found out now you probably just receive them online like me!
