Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights

Hi all, I'm just starting to look into claiming charges from A&L, had a quick tot up yesterday( have all my bank statements for the last 10 years) which comes to around £1800 and that did'nt include the fines for going over the agreed overdrarft limit, as i did'nt know that i could claim for these, so now going back over to recalculate!(armed with spread sheet)
a question, I see A&L close accounts when you start a claim and this could affect your credit score, would it be better for me to close the account first and then make the claim?
Other than that I'll keep you posted on my journey and keep reading this great site!
I would not close your account yet, to start with write them a nice letter (see letter templates)with details of all your charges i believe that you can only go back 6 years. they will send you back back a standard letter saying that the charges are correct. then ask again using second letter. then persue the case through the courts (there is also some useful info on the govan law center website to look aswell) good luck

Hi, numlock3.
First, I'm not sure that closure of the account on their part CAN affect your credit rating, unless it is closed because you are in debt (eg. unable to repay your overdraught). I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that point.
If you'd feel more comfortable closing the account yourself and are prepared to wait a few more days while you set up another account, then do so.
This is your claim, your timetable and, most importantly, your chosen way of proceeding.
You might want to have a look at BankFodder's post on the subject and consider incorporating an injunction application as part of your claim? Just a thought.
I'm pretty certain that Younganfree is right, too, regarding your credit rating!
If I've helped, please tick the scales at the bottom left of this message!

ok I'm not the most experienced user of excel! but I cant get the spread sheet to work I've downloaded from google but when I open it there is an error in the interest calc, in the daily interest column I get "value!" I tried putting the date in just about every dif way I can but makes no difference, help please
Hi numlock
I had this problem, I haven't got the spreadsheet infront of me at the moment but I think you've got to put, month, date, year, like the American system. So if you put 16/10/06 its create's a 'VALUE" because there is no month 16.
Good Luck

thanks for the reply rob, yes I thought that but however I put the date in it didn't work (I work on a mac and I think this may have something to do with it :-|) but I've download the free software that bankfodder recommends "officeorg" link below if there are any other mac users out there
You will probably find it more helpful to keep all your posts on your original thread. That way we see how your claim progresses.
If you post all over the place it gets confusing, and you can leave yourself open to conflicting advice if we don't see all the steps you have gone through so far.
You can start your claim now and set up your parachute account. They tend to close accounts about a month after paying up. I don't think it matters who closes it, but personally I wouldn't give them the satisfaction.
When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.

hi all, i'm back again with more questions, i've spent the last few days reading up on the forums regarding contractural intrest, has anyone added to this to there claim with A&L and if so what %rate
I just worked out that A & L are charging us 10.85% interest on our overdraft for this month. I am going to use that rate as my contractual interest when I do my claim.
I am not sure if anyone has used it but if you want to I suggest you use the current rate off their website as I don't think historical ones are kept, and could be too complicated anyway. Give it a go if you like.
