Finally!

I would just like to say though, that as a Scouser myself, most of us know of at least one person who lost their life that day, or who's life was devastated. And for the person who lost his life that I know, it is too late for his Father who passed away 5yrs ago, so Justice? Yes - it's just a pity it is 20 some years too late.

RIP to the 96 - The truth always wins through ~Justice for the 96~

Edit: It has just been revealed that 41 of the 96 could have been saved that day, had it have been dealt with properly.

Life is like an echo, it all returns......The good, the bad, the false, the true......So if you give life the best you have, the best will come back to you.

The report finds flaws in the police operation and new evidence that the police carried out checks on those who had died in order to "impugn their reputations"

The report finds 164 statements were "significantly amended" and 116 "removed negative comments" about policing operation.

The panel finds that a total of 41 people out of 96 "had the potential to be saved".

This is absolutely horrendous..

Thanks citizenb, I have it on the TV at the moment - it's quite hard to watch though, bringing back some awful memories, so I can't begin to imagine what the survivors and families are going through.

Hillsborough papers: Cameron apology over 'double injustice'

David Cameron has said he is profoundly sorry for the "double injustice" of the Hillsborough disaster.

Speaking after an independent report into previously unseen documents about the disaster, the prime minister said police had failed to do enough and then tried to blame the Liverpool fans.

Ninety-six fans died after a crush at Sheffield Wednesday's ground in 1989.

What really upset me, was when the fans were accused of being drunk, and breaking into the stands - they weren't and they didn't, the police opened the gate, then shut and locked it behind them, they couldn't get out.

The boy I knew was only 14, his Dad was never the same man after that.

I will never forget that day as long as I live, I watched it unfold live on the TV, then had to see the Sun newspaper print photographs of the dying/dead, crushed with their tongues hanging out of their heads! I will never forgive the Sun newspaper for that, and will not even allow a Sun newspaper in my home.

Life is like an echo, it all returns......The good, the bad, the false, the true......So if you give life the best you have, the best will come back to you.

It was a horrendous thing to have happened and I am pleased that today we are closer to getting some true facts but the one thing I am not sure about is the fact that they are sayingso many people could have been saved, wont that be worse for the families who are now thinking was my loved one alive, could somthing have been done etc etc ?

If I have been of any help, please click on my star and let me know, thank you.

This, I think is a difficult question. If they are going to attempt to an overturning of the original Coroners report from accidental death to unlawful killing, then this is an important issue that needed to be made.

It is a dreadful thought to now have to live with, I agree.

Phillip, I think you will find the newspaper will protect themselves by saying they only published the information that was given to them by the Police !

Of course they will conveniently forget that they didnt simply report facts given to them, but sensationalised the story as well.

Nobody around ours will ever buy The Sun because a smack in the mouth would be likely to offend.

It will certainly be interesting to see if their sales decline because of this.

I hope that the families can now get some closure on what was a truely tragic event. My heart goes out to every one of them.

Not taking away any of the seriouness of the situation, this was truely preventable. The report refers to a previous incident between Spurs and Wolves in 1981. 8 years before this tragedy. I was at that game that day, and in the very end where these people lost their lives. That day a similar incident was prevented by the stewards opening the gates to allow hundreds of Spurs fans onto the pitch side, to relieve the pressure. We were shepherded into pens around the ground. I eventually ended up in the Wolves end, totally opposite to the Leppings Lane end. To say the day was horrendous for us, could not come anywhere near to what happened to those poor fans that fatal day.

May this flame burn eternal, last time i visited, i was worried my tears would extinguish it.

I watched the response to the reports live from HOC which was on for most of day live.

Some of my friends and one of my brothers also attended the gathering outside St.Georges hall which went into the evening with 1000s turning up.

Its clear that while many always believed was a cover up,no one was prepared for the details and extent of deception that has actually been revealed.

There wont be any closure until the persons who were responsible are named and prosecuted.

There will be no relenting from those who have waited almost half a century to get to this point....todays disclosures should pave the way to that closure.

All the apologies from the Sun now will change nothing-the paper has remained off limits since 1989 not only in Liverpool, but to a great number of Merseysiders.

I think the last time I saw the HOC so sombre was after the London bombings, politicians from all sides forgot their indifferences and came together Andy Burnham has been a fighting force throughout and I remember watching his speech at Anfield 3 years ago when he said that the truth would come out.

He was at the HOC this afternoon and later joined the people at St.Georges hall.

For the world audience who have been following the events after the reports were revealed,I think the first thing they will be asking is how a cover up which involved so many, could ever happen in Britain.

They wont be alone-the same questions will now be in the minds of Britains themselves.

This very well could have been a tragedy on the same scale, I had no idea this had happened 9yrs earlier TonyCee, thankfully a disaster did not happen and you're here to tell the tale. Those perimeter fences were quite obviously an accident waiting to happen.

This has to be the biggest cover up in British history, and I pray that each and every person who can be held accountable is - not only did they lie about the causes of this terrible tragedy, but they actually lay the blame of the dead at their own feet, and the feet of those who survived, there are no excuses, this is a disgrace beyond comprehension.

It was said yesterday at the press conference, that the people of Liverpool have a huge sense of right and wrong, and a spirit and determination like nowhere else - I think this battle of 23 years proves this statement beyond any doubt.

Life is like an echo, it all returns......The good, the bad, the false, the true......So if you give life the best you have, the best will come back to you.

There had been many warnings about Hillsborough for years, the moment the news came out that day, most football fans worked out that it was the Leppings Lane End where the deaths happened. The FA did nothing, South Yorkshire Police did nothing, Sheffield Wednesday's directors did nothing...

It's about time somebody was brought to account

Well I had no idea about this at Hillsborough, although my OH said he knew! (Men huh, now he tells me!) - And it is about time someone was held to account!

The Sun newspaper have made me sick today, with their apology, I notice they didn't make the apology the headline!!

I am so glad about the massive media coverage the Hillsborough Report has had since yesterday. Here in Liverpool, despite knowing about how big the cover up was - no one believed us, until yesterday. Even though I already knew much of what happened, even I was shocked at the extent of the cover up.

Andy Burham was at Anfield for the 20th Anniversary, and was heckled something terrible. He promised he would help - and he did! How often can you say that about a polician? The following year Andy Burham was again at Anfield at the 21st Anniversary, but he wasn't with the VIPs - he was just in with the crowd, couple of seats away from me. That was the first time I thought "Justice is coming" - I just knew it.

It's the bereaved families who have received most of the praise, rightly so. They have conducted themselves in a dignified and brave manner, and they have nothing but my admiration for the courage they have shown for the last 23 years.

I hope now that there are some criminal convictions for those responsible for this tragedy.

And now it seems as if the those police responsible are finally going to have a criminal investigation! It also looks as if they will face criminal charges!!!!

I also agree Phillip, Andy Burham? What a good man!!!!

I'm not Andy Burnham's biggest fan but he deserves some thanks for doing something that many bigmouths in that so-called Labour government couldn't be bothered to do. This was an event that affected a lot of people regardless of which team they supported and it's still disgraceful that so much was covered up. I just hope this stays in the news for a little while, because there are a number of people involved in this who deserve everything that's coming to them...

Sir Norman Bettison, who is now the Chief of police for West Yorkshire (sadly West Yokshire just about covers the town I live in so it's taking me all I have to keep schtum) is still in todays newpapers blaming the Liverpool fans!

Here is the link for the Telegraph, and it also has the document of Norman Bettisons statement: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/news/9541325/Hillsborough-police-chief-Sir-Norman-Bettison-claimed-fans-attacked-stewards.html

I say he should first off be stripped of his Knighthood, and Kenny Dagleish should be given one instead! Then drag him and all the others through court by their meat and two veg - finding them guilty as accused, charged and found!!!!!!!

I know it's late, but I can't sleep with this gale force wind, so have just seen this on the news!!

Life is like an echo, it all returns......The good, the bad, the false, the true......So if you give life the best you have, the best will come back to you.
