Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights

Hello everyone! new to this forum (fantastic website) - and have been reading as much I can to try and reclaim my bank charges. Problem is, I was all fired up at the start, ready to take on the banks and now I lost my bottle - all these spreadsheets, sums etc freak me out!!
I sent prelim letter to A & L on 15 Sept - got standard fobbing off letter back on 19th Sept. Then sent lba letter on 29th Sept - still awaiting reply. Just realised that the Schedule of Charges that I should have included was not what I thought I had included! I STUPIDLY enclosed that leaflet you get from banks telling customers of charges applicable on an account. Please don't laugh - I feel sooooo foolish now and don't know what to do. Also really confused about next step - working out interest, templates etc. Not numerate AT ALL!! Can some kindly soul help me.......please??

Hi dont panic. what you must do is read the faqs this will guide you through the process from start to finish.
It is good advice to read the FAQs again. I think the current suggesition is about 5 days reading. The more you understand the more confident you will be, but please keep posts on the public forum so that others can benefit from the advice, and help out too. They might have some additional advice.
When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
Should you be offered help that requires payment please report it to site team.

Bluebeard, yes take this good advice and read the faq's again but don't worry about the sums, the spreadsheet does them all for you. You only need to enter the charge details, date and amount of charge at the lba stage, when you get to the claim stage, you can add the interest that the spreadsheet works out for you.
Do you also know that A& L will close your account at some point so you need to open another?
Good luck and don't worry, not the end of the world!
thanks for all of your reassurance. I am in the process of reading the FAQ's from cover to cover again! . I did note earlier in the process that A & L might close my account, but don't really care anyway, because I already have another main bank account for salary etc. (Abbey - who will be in the firing line later on). Was never really impressed with A & L - customer service is shocking, so will be glad to see the back of them!!!!

Hi, bluebeard.
I can't tell from your thread whether you have addressed this problem yet.
If not, I would suggest you act as if you hadn't sent this package. Send them a new LBA (just as if it were the first you've written) and include the shedule of charges this time - problem solved.
Younganfree, I haven't actually addressed the problem as yet - been busy reading through faq's again. The lba deadline for A & L is Friday 13th October.
You advise I start the LBA process again...firstly, as I have already sent an LBA but did not enclose Schedule of Charges, I am now about to send them a schedule.
Questions:
(1) Should I now send a COPY of orginal LBA with my Schedule?
(2) Must I now give them another 14 days from date of sending the above?
(3) Re: The Schedule of Charges.....is it acceptable to present them as a chronological list of charges, noting date, amount and reason for each, OR is there a recommended template?

Well, I've taken you advice and finally found out how to do the Schedule of charges! Just to double check with you - I've located the spread sheet that's on the google site - I've filled in the one that doesn't include 8% interest at this stage. I've printed off several copies, one to be included in the NEW lba that I am sending to A & L. I will put in post tomorrow and give them the standard 14 days response time.
I assume this now correct procedure will override the last LBA I sent to them?
Put my new lba with schedule of charges in the post to A & L today, only to have received a letter from them reminding me that my account is in an unauthorised overdraft position - and that I should act (repay charges) before 12 October, to avoid "further action". They also say my banking facilities could be withdrawn if I do not follow their instructions and that this is a "serious matter" blah blah blah. THE CHEEK OF THESE PEOPLE!! WHERE'S THE RESPONSE TO THE LETTERS I'VE WRITTEN TO THEM ASKING FOR MY MONEY BACK???
Rant Over.....my question is, do I ignore these letters and continue with my claim or call them and say words to the effect of - you can keep charging - I'll get it all back soon enough! Worried I will go into default - but there are procedures to follow if that occurs aren't there?
If they do threaten to default you on it then tell them the account is in dispute and they can't. Actually write to them now and tell them the account is in dispute. I wouldnt bother ringing.
