Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hello all,
I'm new to this, but have been reading up on your very helpful information recently to try reclaiming some money after this site was recommended by a friend.
After much deliberation, I took action...
26/09/06 - sent Prelim letter asking for £1,016 in charges to be repaid.
03/10/06 - received letter from bank offering £220 as a "gesture of goodwill"!
PLEASE READ... http://www.simonreid.net/letter_011006.jpg
Can anyone please advise how should we progress with this now?
From the postings I've seen, I feel I should push on with my claim. However I am confused from the comments in the bank letter, as to the OFT rulings now.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, so I don't make a wrong move.
Many thanks
Hi SIREID, this is a standard fob-off letter and you should not let it deter you. They are trying to put the wind up you, as are all of the banks and this response is nothing new. If you look in the bank charges survey results 128 A&L customers who have filled in the survey have succeeded in getting their charges back, and the average was at stage 3 (raising a court claim). You should consider opening a parachute account however as I noticed one of the members here had their account closed by them as soon as the charges were refunded.
If you proceed with the lba, you don't need to refute their interpretation of the OFT's report, just change the first line of the template to read something like "I am disappointed that you have not responded positively to my letter of xxx2006."
When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
Should you be offered help that requires payment please report it to site team.

The account is a joint account for my wife and I. Fortunately we both have our own accounts with alternative banks already, should A&L decide to close the account
I've just completed the lba, which is being posted off tomorrow. Fingers crossed now....two weeks and counting.
Keep you posted.
Cheers
