Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I was contemplating claiming back unfair charges a while ago, but due to financial problems couldn't do without the overdraft that Abbey allowed me. Today I popped to the shop and my debit card was refused.......so I checked on line and they've stopped my overdraft facility (just after I got paid!!!). So I phoned them and asked if this meant that I would be getting charges on the current amount overdrawn.....Daft question!!! They've charged me £151 for being overdrawn and not being able to pay my S.O's/D.D's since Saturday 1-10-06!!!! So for just 2 days I've incurred £151 in charges.
What do I say??? Bring it on Abbey, now you've made me really angry!
I will read through as much stuff as possible before proceeding! I'll make sure I print relevant info off too.......it seems that many people are just jumping in without checking they know exactly what they should be doing. Have read BankFodder's wrist slap post, so hopefully wont make the same mistake :o)

I'm definitely going to claim those charges now!
I know how you feel! I was getting charged on average £300 per month it was a vicious circle as my salary would go in the charges would go out and my direct debits would then bounce around and I would get charged again. In the end I opened a fresh account with HSBC transferred my salary and direct debits then sent Abbey a letter telling them that due to the charges administered to my account I was in financial difficulty and had moved my business elsewhere. I advised I would be paying £50.00 per month to clear my overdraft. Then I sent them a letter requesting all my charges back .
I'm in the process of opening a new account elsewhere too Nad1ne. I've asked my employers not to put my wages into the shAbbey one as it's closed .....although I haven't actually closed it as yet. I'm gonna write to shAbbey and offer them £50 p/m like you did ....... although I have seen a thread (can't remember where, but will have another look for it) where they mention no extra charges being added to an account in dispute. Not sure if its the case, but I will look into it when I actually start the ball rolling! I haven't started yet as I'm doing as much reading as possible .....really want to get this right!!!
I am in a similar position as I have just left my full time job for a low paid part time one. Basically for the past two months I have incurred charges on top of charges. I spoke to some one in ShAbbeys debt management department and told them that my account was in dispute along with the reference number on the letter from Marc Windy (oops!) I mean Winder and I have now been given an extension on settling my account until the dispute is resolved. I also made a token £20 payment to show goodwill. You might try something along those lines.
Good luck.

Thanx for that Nic!! I'll give it a go!
Does anyone have any idea how I deal with the most recent charges which aren't on any statement or aren't showing up online?? Do you reckon its worth just ringing and asking them how much??

Well done! I contacted them on one occasion to tell them they would be putting me in serious financial difficulty if they took the £300 of charges out of my account one month and their answer was to increase my overdraft????? This was already at a level higher than my monthly income. I am sure that will stand me in very good ground if I end up in court.
