Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
My main problem is receiving charges for returned payments which have not gone through because the cheques I had put into my account had not yet cleared.
I guess I can't apply to the bank for refunds of these charges (£35) as it's in the Banking Code that they can take up to 5 days to clear a cheque.
However, I really need to change to a bank who treats their customers better (ie NOT Lloyds TSB!!!)
Does anyone know a bank who let you draw against cheques sooner, pelase?
Penalty charges are unlawful whatever the terms and conditions at any time. The term is unfair and therefore unenforcable.
For a bank that doesn't make you wait until cheques are clear try Barclays (I think there is a qualifying period though). It is always wise to wait till cheques are cleared in time for DD's anyway in case cheque bounces
BEFORE starting your claim read through the FAQ's and if there's something you aren't sure of then ask.

Yes you can; that's what this site was set up to help people do!
Keep an eye on the site's refunds ticker, currently at over £3 million pounds. That's how much banks are known to have repaid to people who have had the same kind of charges as you.
