The best advice I can give you is to read the FAQs thoroughly a lot more than once and look through as many threads as you can particularly those relating to the claims you may be making.
It is well worth spending a couple of days doing just that so, that you get a feel for the process and an idea of how the different stages of it work for others. Then you will feel a lot more confident when you start the ball rolling with your own claim(s).
