Hi,

I own a caravan, sited at a park in Towyn,North Wales. My problem is this...A relation used the caravan last week and part way through their holiday they had 2 bikes stolen from the car.Nothing was found on CCTV,I cant claim through MY caravan insurance, and the site owners have now told me that I am not covered on theirs. However,I have found a clause in my licence agreement that states "We will insure the Park against usual third party risks to a minimum of £2 million per claim".Does anyone think I may be able to seek recompense through this?.Any advice would be most grateful.

Regards,

Bill.

hi stokie1960, good point you have raised, ask the site owners about this, if they still disagree, see if you can get half an hour free with a solicitor to look at the licence clause for you, or see who the licence is with, and then ring them up and ask them, you should be able to find this out, if not ask other caravan owners who might know this, also there is a website if you google static caravan licence should bring up licence conditions for static holiday caravan sites, and see www.iwight.com/eforms/eforms hope this helps. totiesquoties

Stokie, you should put this in writing, enclosing a copy of the clause.Keep a copy and send recorded.

I have had holidays on almost all of the sites there on both sides of the road, and know that thismust happen a lot.

If they refuse to sort it,this would not be too difficult as a simple moneyclaim, but you will need to read the agreement and scrutinise it fully to make sure there are no restrictions or conditions as to any liability-for example that there was undue care.

Sorry but the previous replies are not quite correct in my opinion. The site owners will have third party liability Insurance in place, which I think is compulsory. But this relates to situations where there could be a question of liability arising from the actions or inactions of someone. This would not relate to thefts of bicycles from a car. For your relative to be able to claim for the bikes, they would need to contact the Contents Insurers for where they live. Their Contents Insurers may cover bikes taken away from home. If they don't have cover, then the loss will not be covered. Just because you own the caravan does not allow you to Insure the property of someone else. The bikes were theirs and it was their responsibility to make sure they were secured, as well as being insured.

We could do with some help from you.
