Hi Guys,I was burgaled on the 6/6/11 and quite a lot of expensive items were taken along with kids game consoles the expensive items were Indian Gold (which i got when i got married).

The loss adjuster came out and took a list of all the items and reciepts of gold i had and a statement from my wife (i was on a course from work) Following lots of phone calls and calls to the police who sent out a officer from the Burglary unit i had a visit today from another loss adjuster and a collegue from the same insurance company take a statement from me which i happily gave then she started to ask for proof of payments to various companies for some electrical items (a sat box which cost me £529.00) to which i replied i dont have that at this time.

She went through every item and interrogated me like i was a criminal (thats what i think) and now has asked for photographs of the gold which i do have some of when i got married and went to some parties but most of the photos were on a portable hard drive which was attached to my wifes laptop that had been stolen.

She also stated that she wanted me to ring apple for a serila number of my daughters i-pod classic to which i did today and they have no record of that they have a record of my wifes i-phone but not the i-pod.I also gave the first loss adjuster a photocopy of a reciept of gold which myself and my wife had purchased but i dont have the original she then asked "why have you got a photocopy?" to which i said i was trying out my printer photocopier at that time and will look for the original (i have searched hi and low and cannot find).

She also wanted proof of laptop ownership which i bought a couple of years ago he exact words were "Go to Currys or Comet and get a copy of the reciept".I was really shocked when she asked for a proof of two portable dvd players (which i bought the kids at x-mas) only 49.99 at Argos i said i have lost that reciept as it was in my bedside cabinet draw but i emptied the draw out and i must have binned the reciept. She is coming back to see me on the 28/7/11 with a Gold specialist from london and made me sign a statement and a consent form to obtain the police report.

She also asked if i had any jewellery left to which i showed her a gold ring which i bought and straightaway she said there is no hallmark on there to which i replied that is what i bought and its from this jeweller she then replied according to 1974 all items of gold should be hallmarked and i said thanks for telling me that i shall now start looking for that on Indian gold

After almost 3 hours they left and said she will continue with her enquires and be in touch.Sorry for the long post but i just want thing sorted and for me and my family to continue with our lives Has anyone else had an experience like this?? tlal05

I know, it doesn't always work.

If you can bear to, go into the Edit Post button on the bottom right of your OP and see if that edits in paragraphs. Otherwise I'll see if I can have a go if your having problems.

There's nothing wrong with them asking you to prove what you owned where you can prove it, they’re not going to just accept on face value and pay out, it's just their approach that seems to be a bit heavy handed.

It is up to you to prove your loss and the value, but again, there are ways and means of doing this.

Unfortunately it's in insurers interest to treat every claim (and especially theft) as slightly suspect, it's just the nature of the business, and whilst most people are genuine, there are the bad eggs out there.

I'd comply within reason for what they are asking, but don't let them get away with paying for some stuff because you can prove it and not the stuff you can't. Just because you can't produce evidence of ownership, unless they are suggesting you didn't own it in the first place and have a strong reason to believe that, they should be paying out.

Apart from going to comet/curry's and asking, there's not a huge amount more you can do, it's then a wait to see what they come up with.

Your going along the right lines, photo's, statements. There's only so much you can do.

The gold specialist will ask you for detailed descriptions about the items, not to catch you out, but so they know what their looking at replacing with. They sometimes do this by phone, but it's easier face to face as they may have catalogues etc.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi guys

Been on the phone to fos and they referred me to abi who then referred me to the fsa

The fsa gave me some advice and also advise me to speak to the insurance company complaints dept as to how the loss adjuster spoke to me.

I have some proof like i said but majority of photo proof was on a passport drive that was stolen along with a laptop.

She is due to visit again on the 28/7/11 so i can show her all the proof.

Hope fully i can put this nightmare to bed and me and my family could get on with our lives

thanks

Hi Everyone,

I had a visit yesterday from my Senior Claims Investigator and a Insurance and Jewellery Consultant from a company called "Butler Morton".

They checked the photos which i had with the items of jewellery and also went through the reciepts which i had provided the guy from Butler Morton was a right one (he knew everything) he was saying how do you know that this chain is 22 carat indian gold etc.

They visited my parents house and asked my dad a few questions and also visited the jewellers from where the gold was purchased.

I phoned the police today to ask for an update and they said there is little we can do now and your claims investigator is doing some more checks including a fraud check.

I have also tried to contact my claims investigator but she is not answering her phone (i just leave messages) however when the police tried to contact her she spoke to them on the same number that i was given.

What a nightmare

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am insured with More Than/ R S A Group.

thanks

hi Mwynci,

I called the claims investigator as i have some copies of bank statements and photos which i needed to give to her of electrical items and purchases made at retailers.

She left in a hurry yesterday and i forgot to give her the extra proof (as she said) to her.

thanks Mwynci for your fast reply

hi everyone,

I got a letter today from Butler Morton for more information and photos even though i told the consultant that a lot of the photos were on a portable hard drive which was stolen.

I have also tried to contact my senior loss adjuster but she is not responding (i gave her a week) i have sent numerous e-mails to her to ask what is going on as my kids are without there consoles and its the summer holidays and there are "bored" (thats all i hear)

I am awaiting a phone call from a Butler Morton consultant to clarify some points he has raised.

I have also phoned Timothy Mitchell (claims MD) today and he was out of the office on an event and was told to call back tomorrow afternoon or monday.

I am now at my Tether with this insurance company.

thanks for listening to me rant

hi everyone

i have already posted my insurance claim details on here

I phoned the police as they are investigating my claim along with More Than/ RSA Group on 10/09/2011 and spoke to the investigating officer with regards to any updates regarding the stolen electrical items and stolen jewelrey and the officer replied " we are still doing our investigations and have asked for for Third Party Reports is there anything you would like to tell us" i replied no as i would just like to put this horriffic expeirence behind me and move on.

As xmas is coming up i dont want to buy the kids replacements to find my insurance company sending me replacements for the items that were taken.

does anyone know what Third Party Reports they are waiting for?

i am really being pushed from pillar to post with them and my insurance company?

This is your thread. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?313476-More-Than-RSA-Group.&p=3492986#post3492986

If you click on your user name, you can find your previous posts and then you just need to add a post, rather than start a new thread.

In regard to your question. I have no idea. I presume that the Police are carrying out a range of checks, as would be expected with a theft from a property. Perhaps they check with jewellery/gold shops, Ebay, small ads in local papers, background checks on those living in the house that was burgled etc.

If you have nothing to hide from the Insurers or Police, I would suggest that you let the claim process and Police investigations proceed at there own pace. If there is nothing urgent, then wait. If you start getting aggitated and ask for cash settlements, the Insurers may become unecessarily suspicious.

We could do with some help from you.

thank you citizenB for merging my threads

@ unclebulgaria i have nothing to hide its been over 3 months and my insurance company loss adjuster is about reliable as a chocolate fire guard (sorry for the comments) all i do is phone her leave a message and e-mail her she doesnt respond until i phone the complaint handler phone number to ask for updates (which we agreed on and this is done every fortnightly)

As you can understand a lot of my past memories have been taken and i am upset and if i find the culprits they will have a lot to answer.

i have also started asking around pubs and looking on car boot markets for my items in hope i find them but have had no luck as yet.

thank you all for your fast replies and advice

Being the victim of a burglary is a traumatic event and you are obviously feeling extremely upset. However, I dont think the time taken in the circumstances is unreasonably long.. at this moment.

It is understandable that the insurers would be concerned that receipts and guarantees were not retained.. even for items costing just £49.99 from Argos.. You would have needed those anyway for claims had the item failed to work during the guarantee period as proof of purchase at the store.

My sister was a victim of a burglary a few years ago. An antique necklace was one of the items taken. It had been given to her by our grandmother who had long since died so there was no proof of purchase or value. It was never thought to take a photograph. The insurers were reluctant to even pay out some 6 months after the event, until a photograph was found of my sister wearing the item and they were then able to have a valuation made .. That took nearly 9 months before the claim was settled.

I think you are just going to have to be patient.

If your children are mithering for their items to be replaced, then replace them.. the insurers will just have to accept that and give you a monetary value for those items you have needed to replace.

Hi citizenB,

i provided them with photograhs of most of the items and even had sky send me an e-mail stating that i had a a sky + box and upgraded to sky HD this was in a photograph too and so was most of the items apart from a laptop which my wife used and a portable passport drive (which had hundreds of pics on it)

there was also an evaluation of my jewellery which was done by the jeweller given to them.
